"When you start to see aircraft in this range inside the Russian borders to the tune of 50 kilometers, then actually they would have to start rethinking how they use their air force."
Hello Team!

Helicopter crashes in Bryansk region
- A helicopter crashed in Klintsy, Bryansk region after circling the city and then collapsing on a house
- Video shows it was likely hit by a missile, contradicting Russian reports of an engine fire
- The helicopter was probably shot down by Russian air defence about 40km from the front line
Multiple aircraft losses reported
- Russian media reported two helicopters crashing - one in Klintsy and one near the village of Tsaretsky
- A military fighter jet, likely an Su-34, also crashed in the Bryansk region
- The crew of the Su-34 died as they were unable to eject
- Unconfirmed rumours suggest losses of 2 Mi-8 helicopters, 1 Su-35 fighter and 1 Su-34 strike aircraft
- All incidents occurred in the southwestern part of Bryansk region
Theories on what happened
- Russian media claimed aircraft were shot down by Ukraine from the Chernihiv region, about 50km from the crash sites
- Other sources suggest all 4 aircraft were hit by anti-air missiles, unclear if Russian or Ukrainian
- 9 Russian military aviation personnel died in total from the crashes
- The downed Mi-8 helicopters may have been rare Mi-8MTPR-1 electronic warfare variants used for radar jamming
Analysis of the incidents
Jonathan notes this is a very significant and embarrassing day for Russia. Either they are shooting down their own aircraft in Russian territory, or Ukraine is able to hit Russian aircraft 50km inside the border. If it was Ukraine, Russia would have to rethink how they use their air force. However, Jonathan leans towards it being unlikely that Ukrainian air defences were responsible. But if Russia blames Ukraine, they have to admit Ukraine can shoot down aircraft far inside Russian territory. It's a no-win situation for Russia either way.

Wrap up
Jonathan emphasises how significant these events are, possibly the worst day for the Russian Air Force since WW2. He notes he needs to go and may not have time for an extra video tonight.
