"How do I feel about scammers, Ukrainian scammers, scamming a poor old lady to go in and set off fireworks? She's now going to be put in prison. I feel... But then if that's causing issues for the Russian commercial properties that then cause show discontent, I don't know. Will that be used against Ukraine? How do we understand this, morally speaking?"

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Ukrainian General Staff Figures for Russian Losses
🎦 00:05-00:45⏩
- Jonathan presents the Ukrainian General Staff's figures for Russian losses, reminding viewers of the usual caveats (found in the video description).
- 1,860 personnel lost (4th highest of the war)
- 10 tanks lost
- 18 armoured personnel vehicles
- 32 artillery systems
- 98 vehicles and fuel tanks - which Jonathan believes indicates that Russia is using other types of vehicles like SUVs, golf buggies, quads, and other buggies for attacks due to equipment shortages.
Russian Destruction of Bridges in Donetsk
🎦 00:45-02:23⏩
- Russia has reportedly destroyed multiple bridges in the Donetsk region, including one near Kostantinopolska and a reinforced concrete bridge near Velika Novosilka on the southern front using a Fab 500 aerial guided glide bomb.
- Jonathan comments that Russia is going hard at infrastructure.
Significant HIMARS Strike on Rylsk, Kursk Region
🎦 02:23-06:05⏩
- A significant HIMARS strike occurred in Rylsk, Kursk region.
- The Russian envoy to the UN, Nebenzia, stated there would be retaliation for the strike, indicating a high-value target was hit.
- Rylsk is a strategically important town for the Russians on the Kursk front, being a likely staging post for the front line.
- Multiple targets were hit, including a pedagogical college where ammunition was reportedly stored, and Russian Armed Forces military deployment sites.
- Russian millbloggers reported a powerful strike, and Nebenzia confirmed a swift response would follow.
- Local authorities claimed HIMARS were used, resulting in significant damage to electricity, heat, and gas supply in Rylsk.

🎦 06:05-07:07⏩
- The Institute for the Study of War reports that Ukraine carried out its first attack exclusively using robotic systems near Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region.
- Dozens of robotic systems, including drones equipped with machine guns and drones for mine planting and neutralisation, were used.
- These systems were coordinated by high-tech command posts.
Shaping Operation in Kharkiv Region
🎦 07:07-08:23⏩
- Anton Gerashchenko reported that the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, "Katya," conducted the first fully robotic operation against the enemy in the Kharkiv direction.
- This was a shaping operation aimed at creating conditions for further advancement.
- A large number of robotic and unmanned systems were deployed, including ground-based systems, kamikaze drones, mobile turrets, and aerial drones.
- Colonel Maxim Holubok, chief of staff of the Hartia Brigade, stated the goal is to save soldiers' lives by replacing them with robotic systems wherever possible.
Magyar's Birds and Fibre Optic Drones
🎦 08:23-10:47⏩
- Jonathan references a live stream with Andrew Perpetua, where they discussed the organization of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the drone expert Robert Magyar.
- Magyar's drone units have grown significantly, now forming a brigade that trains others and conducts fundraising for electronic warfare equipment.
- Magyar's Birds released a video showing the use of fibre optic drones, similar to those used effectively by the Russians, to destroy Russian T-tanks and BMPs in the Donetsk region.
- Jonathan speculates that Magyar's influence and tactics may eventually be present across the entire front line.
Targeting of North Korean Soldiers in Kursk Region
🎦 10:47-10:57⏩
A montage of footage shows North Korean soldiers being targeted by Ukrainian FPV drone operators in the Kursk region. Jonathan comments that they are frequently targeted in wheat fields.

🎦 10:57-11:37⏩
- Several police cars were set on fire in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Tver, suggesting either public discontent or growing sabotage activities.
- Three incidents of ATMs being set on fire in banks were reported, possibly coordinated, with burned terminals moved out of a Sberbank in Novosibirsk.
Ukrainian Scammers and Moral Consequentialism
🎦 11:37-15:34⏩
- A pensioner set off fireworks inside a shopping centre in Moscow. Police claimed she was forced to do it by Ukrainian scammers.
- Jonathan questions the morality of such actions, discussing moral consequentialism, where the morality of an action is judged by its consequences.
- He uses the trolley problem to illustrate the complexities of moral decision-making, highlighting that there is no perfect moral system.
- Jonathan expresses uncertainty about the ethics of Ukrainian scammers manipulating a pensioner, pondering whether it is justified in the context of the war and its potential impact on Russian morale and commercial properties.
- He acknowledges the need for more information to fully understand the situation, noting that the information comes from Russian sources.
- Jonathan admits to being a moral nihilist to some degree as morality is constructed in our heads.
- Jonathan concludes there's no clear-cut moral value system that works, which is why moral philosophers still disagree after 3,000 years of philosophy.
- There is no perfect moral solution or value system, with problems inherent in consequentialism, divine command theory, deontology, and virtue ethics.
Air Defence and Drone Strikes in Ukraine
🎦 15:34-16:31⏩
- Ukrainian air defence successfully intercepted 113 out of 113 Shahed drones, with 57 shot down and 56 taken out by electronic warfare.
- At least one S-400 missile was sent into Ukraine from Russia, possibly targeting Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, or Zaporizhzhia.
- Strikes were reported in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, with four injuries in Kharkiv, including a 12-year-old girl, due to a drone hitting an apartment block.
Russian Bombing of Cancer Hospital in Kherson Region
🎦 16:31-17:17⏩
- Russia bombed a cancer hospital in the Kherson region, with two major airstrikes reported on the specialist oncology hospital in the Kandika area.

Drone Strike on Residential Building in Kazan
🎦 17:50-19:51⏩
- A drone struck a premium residential building in Kazan, far from the front lines in Ukraine.
- The drone, identified as a "Lyutiy" model, hit the same apartment twice, suggesting a targeted strike.
- Jonathan emphasises that Ukrainians do not habitually hit residential infrastructure as it is counterproductive, risking loss of foreign support and wasting limited resources.
- He suggests the strike was likely an assassination attempt.
Targeted Strike on Shahed Drone Facility CEO's Apartment?
🎦 19:51-22:03⏩
- The targeted building, the Greenwich residential complex in Kazan, may house the apartment of Timur Shagivalev, CEO of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, where Shahed drones are produced.
- Jonathan argues that sending a drone 1,000 kilometers to hit a residential building indicates a specific target, as it is less probable for a drone to travel that distance without being shot down or experiencing mechanical failure.
- He concludes that the strike was likely aimed at the head of the Shahed drone manufacturing facility, rather than a random attack on civilians.
- Jonathan believes that this is a targeted strike on a particular residential building in a particular place, possibly near to the Shahed drone manufacturing facility.
- He believes this is the only theory that makes sense.
Multiple Drone Hits in Kazan
🎦 22:03-24:13⏩
- Jenkiv states that something very important must have been on the 15th floor of the building hit by two precise drone strikes in Kazan.
- Multiple drone hits were recorded in Kazan, with one drone attacking an industrial enterprise, according to the head of Tatarstan.
- Jonathan reiterates the need to target the Alabuga drone facility to prevent the production of Shahed drones, rather than just intercepting them.
- He expects increased Ukrainian long-range drone activity and believes Alabuga should be a top target.
- Another video shows a drone suppressed by electronic warfare crashing into a city courtyard in Kazan, highlighting the challenges of targeting specific locations.
- Jonathan expresses that it is obvious probability that it is much less likely to get a drone 1,000 km without being shot down, or having a mechanical failure.
Cleanup of Damaged Catholic Church in Kyiv
🎦 24:13-25:05⏩
- The second-largest Catholic church in Kyiv was damaged, likely from a nearby building explosion.
- A large cleanup effort took place, with many people coming together to help, particularly at St. Nicholas' Catholic Church.
- This was likely caused by damage from the nearby Toronto business building that was struck.
Conflicting Reports on Ukrainian Military Strategy
🎦 25:05-26:42⏩
- The Financial Times reported that Ukraine aims to seize the initiative on the front lines before Trump's inauguration to gain support from the new president.
- Jonathan suggests this is also Russia's strategy, throwing everything at Ukraine before January 20th.
- He questions whether Russia has started to culminate, noting the impact of 12,000 North Korean troops reinforcing Russian lines.
- The mainstream media focuses on Russian territorial gains, but Jonathan points out the high cost in Russian lives and materiel.
- Jonathan comments that whilst the Russians are losing incredible numbers of people and materiel, they are still taking territory.
Reports of Ukrainian Air Force Personnel Deployed as Infantry
🎦 26:42-28:43⏩
- The Guardian reported that the Ukrainian General Staff may have ordered Air Force personnel, including Western-trained air defence operators, to be deployed as infantry.
- Jonathan finds this worrying if true, as it mirrors Russia's suboptimal strategy of using specialists in infantry assaults, for which they are not well-trained.
- This could mean other vital tasks are not being performed.
- Viewers offer alternative interpretations, suggesting air defence systems might be moved closer to protect ground forces.
- Jonathan acknowledges the need for infantry but questions the implications for Ukraine's offensive potential if valuable air defence assets are used in this way.
- Jonathan clarifies that they need infantry to defend positions, not necessarily to use in meat assaults.
Zelensky's Ambassadorial Reshuffle
🎦 28:43-31:23⏩
- Zelensky has reportedly sacked or reshuffled several ambassadors, including the high-profile and eloquent UN representative who has been a strong critic of Russian atrocities.
- Ambassadors to China, Lithuania, Slovenia, Japan, and other countries have also been affected.
- Zelensky appointed Professor Fedir Shandor, a military serviceman who famously delivered lectures from the trenches, as Ukraine's ambassador to Hungary.
- Jonathan views this as a potentially excellent choice, given Shandor's academic expertise and frontline experience, making him well-suited for the challenging diplomatic role in Hungary.
- Jonathan believes Shandor's multi-varied skills and experiences make him a good choice for such a tough job, able to provide both academic theory and frontline experience to counter Russian narratives.
IMF Predictions for the War and Ukrainian Economy
🎦 31:23-32:38⏩
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts the war will end by the end of 2025.
- Real GDP growth in Ukraine is projected at 4% in 2024.
- The economic impact of winter energy shortages may be more limited than previously thought, thanks to the efforts of energy infrastructure engineers.
- The year-end inflation forecast has been raised to 10% due to accelerating commodity prices.
- Jonathan highlights the varied contributions of Ukrainian heroes, including those working to restore energy infrastructure in dangerous conditions.
- Jonathan comments that given Ukraine is in the middle of a horrible war, they're not doing too badly overall and hopes the IMF's prediction is right so that the Ukraine economy can recover.
- Jonathan believes there are good things ahead for Ukraine when the war is over.
Environmental Disaster on Russian Beaches
🎦 32:38-36:08⏩
- An oil spill from two wrecked Volga-Neft tankers has caused significant environmental damage to beaches in Russia's Krasnodar region, particularly near Anapa.
- The plume of oil stretched 55 kilometers, and beaches may be unsuitable for habitation for years.
- The Kerch Strait water area may also be polluted.
- Russian authorities are attempting cleanup, but it will take at least a month, and the type of oil, Mazut, will likely continue to wash up for many months.
- The sand on the beaches will remain toxic for another 10 years.
- Environmental groups warn that Russia's "Shadow Fleet" of outdated, uninsured vessels will likely cause more such disasters.
- A viewer suggests using microbes to clean up oil, similar to methods used after the Deepwater Horizon spill.
- Jonathan mentions a recent discovery of a microbe that eats radiation, possibly from Chernobyl, highlighting the adaptive power of life.
- Jonathan comments on the incredible extent of the oil spill, with multiple layers visible on the beaches and numerous bags being filled with oil.
Freedom and Celebration in Syria
🎦 36:08-38:06⏩
- Jonathan shares a video of a celebration of freedom and victory in Tishrin Park, Tartus, Syria, marking the first Christmas without the Russian-backed dictatorship.
- He notes concerns about the future governance of Syria but also highlights the happiness of many people experiencing newfound liberty.
- Jonathan hopes that with sufficient support, freedom will prevail in Syria.
- Jonathan believes this is a sense of what Syria could be, a sense of positivity for the end of the video.
Trucks for Ukraine Campaign and Subscriber Target
🎦 38:06-39:05⏩
- Jonathan thanks viewers for their support of the Trucks for Ukraine campaign, which has raised €35,704 towards its €40,000 goal.
- He hopes to send the trucks out by convoy early next year.
- He sets a personal subscriber target of 50,139 by January 2nd, acknowledging it is a random target that does not significantly impact the channel.
