"If 18 year old US kids can keep it running, so can combat hardened and smart Ukrainian mechanics."
Hello Team!
Jonathan provides an extra Ukraine War update on New Year's Eve, covering several topics in a shorter video than usual. He mentions there is a lot more he could discuss but needs to go and prepare for New Year's celebrations.

Missile attacks
- Russia launched another wave of missile attacks, firing over 20 cruise missiles from Tu-95 strategic bombers over the Caspian Sea and ground-based systems
- No missiles were fired from the Black Sea Fleet, possibly indicating low missile stocks
- Ukrainian air defences took out 12 missiles, meaning 8-9 reached their targets
- In the previous large-scale attack, Russia had the capacity to launch 124 missiles but only fired 69, with 54 intercepted, suggesting dwindling missile supplies
- The pauses between attacks are growing while the number of missiles remains the same or is decreasing
Snake Island
- Snake Island, a small but strategically important island in the Black Sea, has been fiercely contested since Russia occupied it on the first day of the invasion
- The island affects shipping routes connecting Ukraine to the world and continental Europe to the Black Sea via the Danube River
- Russian troops withdrew on June 30th, but Russia may try to seize it again as a bargaining chip, which would have significant military and economic consequences
- Maintaining Ukrainian control of Snake Island is crucial for global grain supplies, future energy reserve exploitation, and regional security
- NATO allies should support Ukraine in enhancing its coastal defences to protect the island
Russian propaganda and friendly fire
- A Russian soldier points out a tank destroyed by friendly fire, highlighting the issue of fratricide in the conflict
- Russian channels posted a video claiming to show Ukrainians being hit by Russian artillery, but it was actually a Ukrainian video with the watermark removed
- Such propaganda tactics require skepticism when viewing videos from either side
Ukrainian aircraft evacuation
- Satellite imagery reveals that Ukraine evacuated four Antonov cargo planes and five H225 helicopters to Poland the day after the invasion began
- Moving the equipment to allies for safekeeping was a sensible decision, allowing for their subsequent use
Bradley Fighting Vehicle
- The M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle may be sent to Ukraine, along with spare parts and support equipment
- The M2A2 ODS variant has been upgraded multiple times since facing the USSR, with improved armor, fire control, gun, and missile systems
- The vehicle's 25mm cannon is highly effective against Soviet-era tanks and can be used in reconnaissance and anti-sniper modes
- Despite its complexity, Ukrainian mechanics should be able to maintain the Bradleys, as they are designed to be user-friendly with plug-and-play components and diagnostic computers
Canadian military aid
- Canada has provided substantial military aid to Ukraine, including:
- 39 LAV 6 ACSVs (Armored Combat Support Vehicles), which are modern, well-protected, and highly mobile
- Around 100 Senator APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers) to protect Ukraine's northern borders in the Chernobyl area
- The Senator APCs have explosion-proof bodies, can withstand 50mm shots and grenade or mine detonations, and offer ample space for soldiers and their gear
- The vehicles will be deployed once Ukrainian drivers have received them
- Jonathan commends Canada for their generous support to Ukraine
