"There's usual talk about the red lines and grain deal but it's not to say they've been broken but to laugh at the fact that nothing is going to be done again"
Hello Team!
Jonathan introduces the video as an extra update giving additional tidbits and nuggets to provide a greater understanding of the war in Ukraine. He will focus on two main news stories - the grain deal falling through and the strike on the Kerch bridge.

Grain Deal Terminated
- Russia has officially terminated the grain deal, which could be partly in response to Turkey's pro-Ukraine stance and decisions that don't favour Russia, but seems to be connected to the Kerch bridge strike
- Russia is using this to stamp its control and hold the world to ransom by blockading Ukrainian grain export ships
- Alternative routes like the Danube river are less efficient, take longer and are more expensive, which will increase global food prices
- President Zelensky says Ukraine is not afraid and the grain corridor can continue operating even without Russia's participation, potentially by having third-party grain ships play "chicken" with the Russian naval blockade
- UN Secretary General Guterres criticised Russia's decision, saying it will inevitably lead to increased human suffering, although Jonathan wishes the condemnation was more overt
Kerch Bridge Strike
- The Kerch bridge connecting Crimea to Russia was attacked, likely by Ukrainian sea drones, causing severe damage to the road section
- One road span has collapsed while another is damaged and displaced, rendering both lanes non-operational and requiring major repairs that could take months
- The rail section only suffered minor damage to one track
- Russia has announced there will be an "answer" to the strike, with the defence ministry preparing proposals, likely to include Kinzhal missile strikes on non-military targets as a punitive response
- Jonathan notes the "Putin paradox" where the better Ukraine does in the war, the more unstable and likely Putin is to do something insane in retaliation
- Traffic is backing up for 25km as civilian cars have to detour through occupied Ukrainian territory, which Ukraine may be tempted to strike but is difficult due to the civilian presence
- Russian propagandists are trying to downplay the significance of the attack, claiming it won't affect the battlefield (doubtful) and floating the idea of nuclear retaliation
Wrap up
Jonathan shows some additional war footage of a damaged Bradley fighting vehicle before ending on a humorous note about Ukrainian helicopter pilots being "flashed" by appreciative women as a perk of the job. He thanks his channel members for their support, giving a special shout out to Tom Williamson, and plugs his fiction books as suggested summer reading before signing off.
