"There is a very interesting section in your book where you talk about that, where your chief of staff was somebody recognized as a Democrat. You were very clear about when you were appointing judges that there had to be a kind of political balance. And that feels right to me, but it feels completely dissonant with the sort of politics that we have in the United States right now, which feels really polarized."
Hello Team!
Jonathan aims to keep this video short after the previous lengthy update. He apologises in advance if he fails to do so.

Military Aid
- Ukraine has received an additional 40 French AMX-10RC wheeled tanks. There is debate over whether these are light tanks due to their weak armour. They are armed with a 105mm gun, a 7.62mm machine gun and a large calibre machine gun. There are reports they are being used more as armoured personnel carriers rather than frontline tanks after one was destroyed with crew casualties.
- Poland has donated 60 metro cars to Kyiv as charitable aid to help keep the city's transportation running.
- Ukraine has received a new batch of FPV drones for the "World Hornet Unit". Jonathan notes the high attrition rate for drones in the conflict.
- Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones are losing importance on the frontlines due to Russia strengthening its air defences and electronic warfare capabilities. Jonathan believes Baykar, the company that makes the drones, will be working hard to adapt the drones to counter these measures.
North Korean Artillery Shells
- South Korean intelligence believes North Korea has sent over 1 million artillery shells to Russia since early August, amounting to 2 months' worth of supplies.
- There are rumours the shells have a higher dud rate than normal.
- While concerning, 1 million shells equates to 2 months of Russian artillery if used at the same rate as earlier in the war. Russian artillery use has declined in recent months.
- Jonathan sees it as a positive sign that South Korea is providing this intelligence, as it may indicate they are preparing to sell ammunition or equipment like K2 tanks directly to Ukraine.
Foreign Components in Russian Weapons
A foreign payload was found in a Russian S-400 missile in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Ukraine is investigating and sharing data with partners to prevent the supply of such components to Russia. Jonathan acknowledges it will be impossible to completely stop this but it is good the information is getting to the right people.

Sanctions Violation
A Russian citizen has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and his company fined €200,000 by a Dutch court for breaking EU sanctions. Jonathan sees this as a robust response that will hopefully deter others, though he notes the chance of being caught is a bigger deterrent than the punishment itself.

Transparency in Ukraine vs the US
- Daria Kaleniuk points out that in Ukraine, all members of parliament must declare their assets, income sources and beneficial company ownership. This is in response to reports that the new Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has never listed a bank account or any assets on his financial disclosures.
- Jonathan agrees with Daria's point, arguing that much of what passes as "lobbying" in US and UK politics is essentially legalised corruption and bribery. He believes Ukraine is putting in place greater transparency measures than many Western nations.
- Daria cheekily offers to help the US implement Ukraine's e-declaration system to strengthen accountability in Congress.
Vivek Ramaswamy's Controversial Ukraine Comments
- US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy made controversial comments about Ukraine, claiming it is "not a democratic country" and that as president he would "freeze the current lines of control" and prevent Ukraine from joining NATO in exchange for Russia exiting its alliance with China.
- In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ramaswamy repeatedly asserts he is not "giving Putin anything" while simultaneously saying he would let Russia keep the territory it has seized.
- Jonathan is incensed by Ramaswamy's statements, calling them "Kremlin talking points". He believes Morgan should have pushed back harder on the claims that Ukraine is undemocratic and not let Ramaswamy evade the question with "whataboutism".
- Jonathan argues that Russia ranks lower than Ukraine on the democracy index and that Ukrainians overwhelmingly voted for democracy, except for those in Russian-occupied areas who were unable to vote.
US Aid to Ukraine
- Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated he supports aid to Ukraine but believes the package "needs a lot of work". Jonathan sees this as "giving with one hand and taking with the other".
- President Biden has urged Congress to pass the aid package for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and the US southern border. Jonathan hopes there will be enough bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.
Carlsberg in Russia
- Carlsberg's CEO says Russia has "stolen our business" after the company cut ties with the country and refused to enter a deal to legitimise the government's seizure of its assets.
- Carlsberg had 8 breweries and 8,400 employees in Russia and took a $1.14 billion write-down on its Baltika brewery last year.
- Jonathan approves of Carlsberg's strong stance, saying "screw you" to the Russian government and refusing to justify their actions.
