"Bakhmut is just a hellscape. It's Marinka 2.0 now."
Hello Team!
Jonathan discusses an ISW report warning that Russia could reconstitute itself as a serious long-term threat to Ukraine despite current force generation problems, as the Kremlin has not yet reorganized its war effort to effectively leverage economies of scale. This leaves Russia in a difficult position as they face an imminent Ukrainian counter-offensive while possibly having exhausted their troops.

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Northeast Sector: Kupiansk to Svatove to Kreminna
- Russian forces continued limited ground attacks along the Svatove-Kreminna line on April 13th. Geolocated footage suggests Russian advances south of Bilohorivka.
- Ukrainian forces conducted a partially successful counter-attack near Krivoshiivka, northwest of Svatove, aiming to control a section of the N26 highway. This could be an attempt to encircle Kuzemivka.
- Russian forces deployed various units (motorized rifle, combat reserve, special forces) and additional reconnaissance equipment to the Kreminna area, where lack of rotations is impacting morale. Attacks towards Torske, Makiivka, Nevske, and Yampolivka were repelled.
Bakhmut
- Fighting continues in Bakhmut, with Russian forces making marginal advances in the central, southern, and southwestern parts of the city. Geolocated footage shows Russian troops behind the railway lines.
- Wagner Group and VDV (airborne) units are cooperating, with VDV reinforcing positions on the northern and southern flanks. Artillery is firing from Kurdyumivka area to block Ukrainian reserves.
- Ukrainian forces continue to defend and resupply Bakhmut. They likely blew up two high-rise buildings to deny Russians vantage points. The grain elevator area is contested.
- The iconic Ukrainian tank "Bunny", captured from Russians in March 2022, was immobilized and destroyed by Ukrainians to prevent capture.
Avdiivka and Marinka
- Russian forces captured a small section of the H-20 highway west of Novobakhmutivka after constant artillery bombardment on fortified Ukrainian positions.
- Heavy fighting continues in Marinka and Pobjeda without territorial changes.
Southern Front
- No significant news from Vuhledar, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipro River areas, or Crimea.
- A Russian source claimed Ukrainian forces conducted probing attacks near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
- Defensive fortifications are being built by Russians along the Zaporizhzhia front line and mines laid around the nuclear power plant, with one detonating near the control room.
Wrap up
In summary, the main flashpoints remain Bakhmut, Marinka, and Avdiivka, with some activity in the Kreminna area. Partisan activity is reportedly growing in Melitopol. Jonathan appreciates the incredible support from viewers. He will be away Saturday morning for his son's rugby tournament and may not be able to post the regular updates, but will aim to do so later in the day if possible.
