"If they can hold them to the railway line, then job done and let their own forces reconstitute, ready for some kind of future counter-offensive or something."

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Frontline Analysis
- Poulet-Volant's synthesis map shows Ukrainian gains in Velikonovo-Silka (174.93 sq km), south of Orykiv (62.27 sq km), and Vazilivka/Pyatiketka area (15.6 sq km). Some back and forth with Russian gains in other areas.
- Around Bakhmut, Ukrainians have gained south of the city but Russians are pushing back. Grey zones indicate no clear control.
- In the northeast sector, Russians have made gains but are being repelled by Ukrainians. Debate over strategic value of Russian gains here.
Bakhmut
Jonathan believes:
- Bakhmut has no intrinsic strategic value for Ukraine but has extrinsic value in fixing Russian troops to defend it due to political importance.
- Ukrainians likely moved successful unit from Bakhmut to southern frontline.
- No evidence of Russian claims to have retaken Klishchivka. Holding the railway line is sufficient for Russians to prevent Ukrainian advance.
- Fighting has generally decreased in intensity around Bakhmut.
Southern Frontline
- Ukrainians making progress in Staromilnivka area, attempting to interdict roads and isolate Novodonetsk. High Ukrainian losses reported but still having success.
- In Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainians pressuring Drozhnyanka and probing for weak spots in Russian lines. Concentrating on Robotna, the Russian's strongest defensive point, to grind down troops.
- Ukrainians control northern Robotna and making small advances. Town heavily damaged. Also advancing northeast along H08 highway.
- US official claims Ukrainians have overcome minefields north of Tokmak and are fighting first Russian defensive lines. Each km gained allows Ukraine to strike Tokmak.
- Kerch Bridge still unable to consistently accommodate traffic, hampering Russian ability to resupply southern forces.
