"It could be that they're attacking all these places and then suddenly they'll launch an attack where you're not quite expecting it, maybe between some of these active areas, maybe somewhere like there, somewhere towards Volnovaka and then dogleg down towards Berdyansk."

Hello Team!

Jonathan's news video this morning was hit with an age restriction due to Russian troll activity, which will hugely restrict its advertising and reach. He finds this very frustrating.

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND

Northeast Sector - Kupyansk to Svatove to Kreminna

  • Geolocated footage shows Russian forces advanced into the northern part of Vilshana, but this appears to be behind existing Russian lines.
  • There are claims of repelled Ukrainian attacks in Novoselivka, Yampolivka, Torske, Dibrova, Hryhorivka and Spirne. The last few are south of Kreminna.
  • Russian VDV (paratroopers) are reported to have gone on the offensive on the Kreminna front.
  • The situation is summed up by Andrew Perpetua's map showing 7 areas of Russian pressure/attacks, which all seem to be repelled according to ISW.

Bakhmut Area

  • No changes in mapping over last 24 hours.
  • A Russian source claimed Ukrainian forces advanced near Krasnopolivka and conducted attacks near Bohdanivka and Yayidne in the north, Klishchiivka, Kurdyumivka and Ozaryanivka in the south. This is consistent with recent weeks.
  • Ukrainians are trying to push further south than previously to take remaining Russian positions west of the canal near Andriivka and Ozaryanivka.
  • Ukrainians repelled limited Russian offensive near Ivanivske.

Avdiivka Area

  • Some claims of Russian advances in Spartak area south of Avdiivka, unconfirmed by other sources. Syriac Maps shows a possible new Russian advance here.
  • ISW reports geolocated footage showing both Ukrainian and Russian advances near Pobeda, southeast of Avdiivka. A Russian tank filled with explosives targeted a Ukrainian stronghold but the level of damage is disputed.
  • Syriac Maps claims an area south of Marinka near Pobeda is now under Russian control.

Velyka Novosilka Area

  • Syriac Maps reported yesterday that the Russian defensive line is much further south than shown by Andrew Perpetua.
  • Fighting continues around Nova Donets'ka, Rivnopil', Staromaiors'ke, Urozhaine and towards Pryiutne. No changes confirmed.
  • Ukrainian military reported partial success gaining ground in the Novodarivka, Pryiutne, Makarivka, Rivnopil' areas as well as further west near Robotyne and Novopil'.
  • Ukrainians targeting Russian self-propelled guns behind the lines in the Hirske area with some success. Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters are also targeting Ukrainian equipment in the area.

Zaporizhzhia Sector

  • Pro-Russian source Rybar claims Russian units conducted successful counter-attacks and retook lost positions south of Novodanylivka and near Chervone.
  • Rybar also claims Russians regained control of Pyatykhatky after a powerful artillery strike left Ukrainians unable to defend, but this is dubious given prior geolocated footage showing the village in Ukrainian hands. Other sources say the Russian counter-attack claims are false.
  • Rumors of a Ukrainian breakthrough near Vasylivka are likely exaggerated at this stage. Fighting continues north of Robotyne.

Wrap up

So far only 4 of the 35 brigades trained for the Ukrainian offensive are engaged, with many more yet to join the fight. As Andrew Perpetua suggested, the current attacks may be about drawing in Russian reserves before launching attacks in unexpected locations. The Ukrainians may not need to fully reach the coast to make the Russian position untenable - getting within HIMARS range of key bases like Berdyansk could be sufficient to disrupt Russian operations. Different ideas exist for what would constitute success.

🤖❓ AI Debrief (post task) - anything the AI didn't understand

Some of the place names were a bit unclear in spelling/location, but I was able to find most of them on the maps shown in the video. The overall military situation remains quite fluid and not fully clear in some areas due to limited information.
