Sweden announces $443m military aid package for Ukraine
🎦 07:15-12:47⏩
Jonathan shares news of Sweden's 17th military aid package for Ukraine totalling $443m which includes:
- Donations of materiel
- Procurement of military equipment
- Financial contributions
- CB-90 assault boats
- Robot system (RBS-70 anti-aircraft missiles)
- Anti-tank weapons
- Additional drones
Jonathan highlights that Sweden is exploring future support of JAS-39 Gripen fighters, acquiring parts to preserve these aircraft. Jonathan reads a statement from Pal Jonson, the Swedish Defence Minister. The package includes:
- RBS-70 grenade launchers, ammunition, anti-tank mines and CBI equipment
- Six additional Combat Boat 90s with boat launching trolleys
- Camo for PBV302s (hundreds of infantry fighting vehicles) and ammunition for CV90s
- $72m investment in capability coalitions within the Ukraine Defence Contact Group
Jonathan notes that a decision on the JAS-39 Gripen fighters for Ukraine is not currently viable due to the introduction of the F-16s and would require the cooperation of other countries. Material units of Gripen C or D will be procured (costing $222m) but a decision has not yet been made. Jonathan speculates about what this may mean in practice. Sweden confirms there are no restrictions on the use of the weapons provided, including use inside Russia.
