"So I just, yeah, we should not be talking appeasement at all. But that's what Russia, of course, are wanting. And yeah, anything that plays into the hands of Russian propagandists is a wrong move."
Hello Team!
Jonathan introduces the video as an extra update providing additional tidbits and nuggets to give a greater understanding of the war in Ukraine. He mentions it has been a crazy few weeks.

Electronic Warfare
- Jonathan shares a thread from July 2023 about the importance of electronic warfare
- Ukrainian forces approached enemy positions but Russian artillery began firing on their own positions for 2 hours
- This was because Russian communications were suppressed by Ukrainian electronic warfare, so they could not adjust their fire
- The Ukrainians were able to recapture territory as a result
- Jonathan emphasizes how vital electronic warfare capabilities like jamming communications and drones are in modern warfare
Russian Defensive Fortifications
- Defamon thread highlights the challenges Ukrainian forces face with Russian defensive fortifications
- Russians have built extensive trench lines reinforced with wood and soil, sometimes connecting multiple levels
- These provide protection from artillery and allow safe movement between defensive lines
- Makes it much more difficult and time consuming for Ukrainian forces to capture Russian positions
Mobilized Russian Soldiers Reject Criminal Orders
- Group of mobilized Russian soldiers from elite 76th Guards Air Assault Division recorded video denouncing their commander
- Claim heavy casualties (200 killed, 300 wounded) due to thoughtless actions of command
- Ordered to abandon wounded, execute comrades who refuse to fight
- Threatened with being shot themselves for refusing criminal orders
- Appeal to senior command to review actions of their commander "Rostov"
- Jonathan questions impact of low morale - soldiers with poor morale will still fight if only other option is being shot
- 16,000 Russian soldiers have surrendered through "I Want To Live" hotline since September
Timothy Snyder's Analysis
Jonathan recommends following historian Timothy Snyder for his expertise on Ukraine. Key points from Snyder's analysis:
- Most Russian gains were in first weeks of invasion in early 2022, enabled by 2014 seizure of Crimea
- Ukraine has retaken about half the lost territory through 2022 and 2023 while Russia gained little
- Russia's strategy now is civilian terror until Ukraine breaks - but this is untenable
- Pro-Kremlin voices are increasingly calling for ceasefire as Ukrainian advances hurt Russia
- A ceasefire would just let Russia regroup; their stated goal is still destruction of Ukraine as a nation
- Ukraine needs long-range weapons to have a chance of winning; current restrictions on striking Russian territory make no sense
- With each village Ukraine liberates, we see "de-escalation" from Russian war crimes and genocide
Jonathan's Rant on Appeasement
Jonathan argues passionately against any appeasement of Russia or pushing Ukraine into "peace" deals:
- Russian propagandists openly say the goal is eliminating Ukraine, a ceasefire is just to buy time
- The West has no right to force Ukraine to negotiate with an enemy bent on destroying it as a nation
- Letting Russia keep any Ukrainian territory rewards their aggression and brutality
- Ukraine wouldn't be allowed to fully defend itself under these restrictions on attacking Russia
- Pushing for appeasement plays into Russian propaganda and makes no sense given their stated aims
A Happy Ending
To end on a positive note, Jonathan shares the story of Vladislav, a Ukrainian soldier who was badly wounded just before his planned wedding day. He woke up in intensive care and married his fiancée Anna right in the hospital. Jonathan wishes them many happy and peaceful years together.
