"It is easy to think, well, the Russians are making some gains. Yeah, they're making some territorial gains, but the Ukrainians at the moment are more involved in degrading the Russian defensive capability in a more fundamental way and doing it from a distance."
Hello Team!
Jonathan apologises for technical issues with the end of his previous video being muted and having to re-record this frontline update. He had a rant about Russia attacking Odesa while Putin did a photo shoot in a cathedral in St. Petersburg which he found morally impermissible.

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Frontline Overview
The frontline situation is a mixed bag with the Russians throwing everything at making gains and counter-attacking in places while the Ukrainians are doing a lot of work by artillery. Jonathan explains how his maps work with the Russian defensive lines, grey zones and Ukrainian controlled areas. The UK military intelligence reports increased Russian artillery fire and small unit assaults in the north of the frontline in Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts, likely trying to advance back to the Oskil River to create a buffer zone for the Luhansk Oblast.

Svatove Area
There are slight Ukrainian gains in Novoselivske west of Kuzemivka. The main activity is around Karmazianovka with fighting across the Zherebets River. The Russians have made gains on the west bank, taking control of farms, hills and part of Andriivka village according to pro-Russian sources. The aim seems to be to create a bridgehead for a future offensive to reach the Oskil River.

Kreminna Area
South of Kreminna, the Russians have made gains in the Serebryanske forest area. Different sources report either the Ukrainians attacking and withdrawing or the Russians exploiting a moment to make a breakthrough. Fierce fighting continues in the area.

Bakhmut Area
In Bakhmut, the situation remains dynamic with both Ukrainian and Russian forces making gains and suffering losses in different parts of the city and surrounding villages. The Ukrainians seem to have entered the center of Bakhmut in the Roses area. Pro-Russian sources claim the Ukrainians withdrew from parts of Bohdanivka due to Russian artillery while pro-Ukrainian sources report liberation of areas south of Bohdanivka and Ivanivske.

Avdiivka-Donetsk Area
Heavy fighting continues around Avdiivka and Donetsk city with the Russians exerting a lot of pressure. The Ukrainians reportedly made slight gains south of Avdiivka and are attacking north and northwest of Pervomaiske but had to retreat. The situation around Marinka remains unclear with conflicting claims.

Zaporizhzhia Area
On the Zaporizhzhia front, the Ukrainians reportedly advanced 2.5km east of Priyutne according to one source, reaching back to positions before the last Russian counter-attack. Fighting continues north of Priyutne and Staromaiorske with geolocated footage showing Ukrainian forces attacking. In Robotyne, the Ukrainians cleared some areas after fierce battles. The Russians still hold Zherebyanky village which is being shelled by the Ukrainians.

Analysis
While the Russians are making some territorial gains, the Ukrainians seem focused on degrading Russian defensive capabilities from a distance using artillery and rockets. They are letting the Russians exhaust themselves with attacks while avoiding committing troops to defend every area. The Russian losses in equipment are significant even if they take some land in places.
