🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses
- 610 Russian personnel lost, indicating heated activity on the front lines
- 13 tanks lost, a bad tank day for Russia
- 31 artillery systems lost, consistently huge numbers each day
- 23 vehicles and fuel tanks lost, a significant logistical loss
- Losses are difficult for Russia to sustain
Equipment Losses
- Oryx and Andrew Perpetua track visually confirmed losses on both sides
- Over a few days, Russia lost 53 pieces and Ukraine 75 pieces
- Ukraine's tank losses were mainly older T-64s, preserving their modern NATO-supplied tanks
- Andrew Perpetua's figures represent more of a 24-hour period, showing a 2:1 loss ratio in Russia's disfavour
Ukrainian Helicopter Crash
- Two Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters crashed in Donetsk Oblast on 29th August
- 6 Ukrainian pilots died, a devastating loss
- The pilots were from the 18th Separate Army Aviation Brigade, carrying out military tasks near Bakhmut
- Criminal investigations have been started
Attacks on Russian Airbases
- Ukraine has destroyed or damaged at least 24 Russian aircraft on Russian/Belarusian territory and occupied Crimea
- In 18 months, Ukrainian forces attacked Russian airbases 9 times
- Satellite imagery of Saky Airfield shows at least 2 Il-76 transport planes destroyed, 2 more likely destroyed
- Originally claimed 6 Il-76s and 1 Tu-22M bomber were damaged or destroyed
Strikes and Drone Attacks
- Explosions reported in Russian-occupied Feodosia, Crimea. Suspected Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles used.
- Drone attacks continued on Russia's Bryansk region. 3 drones seen in daytime.
- Over 100 flights delayed from Moscow due to drone attack. Authorities claim 1 shot down on approach.
- Small, cheap drones hard for air defences to detect and shoot down. A challenge Western militaries need to address.
- Russian state media barely mentioned the drone attacks, despite major disruption
Russian Volunteer Corps
The Russian Volunteer Corps, cooperating with Ukrainian SBU, claimed to have crossed into Russia and struck Kursk airfield with drones on 27th August. They say all targets were destroyed, including air defence elements. A drone may have crashed into a residential building in Kursk. The Corps portrays itself as representing free Russians against Putin.

Kerch Bridge Defences
Russia has sunk up to 6 ferries near the Kerch Bridge to act as a 1.2km barrier against Ukrainian maritime drone attacks. Satellite imagery confirms the sunken ferries. The bridge has been previously damaged by Ukrainian attacks.

Illegal Voting in Occupied Regions
Forced voting begins today in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine. Locals are coerced to vote, with their votes monitored. Forecasts already give Putin's United Russia party 80-89% in the partially occupied Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson oblasts.
