"Twitter Blue simply isn't for you. Decisions made by Musk and that were either deliberate or moronic or both."
Hello Team!
Jonathan starts with the Ukrainian General Staff's figures for Russian losses, noting 600 liquidated personnel, 11 tanks, 20 artillery systems, 7 MLRS (a significant loss), and 9 pieces of special equipment. He shares footage of Russian positions south of Bakhmut littered with dead Russian soldiers, some appearing to have been there for months. A Wagner cemetery has grown from 48 graves in December to 824 in July, reflecting their heavy losses.

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Strikes and Explosions
Footage shows a Russian Buk air defence system being destroyed in Zaporizhzhia and a large explosion on a road, possibly a vehicle-borne IED. Reports indicate a Russian elite airborne brigade was forced to retreat under heavy Ukrainian fire near Klishchivka, with some soldiers refusing orders to return to combat. Ukrainians are using a captured Russian TOS-1A thermobaric weapon system against Russian targets.

Disinformation on Twitter
A BBC investigation found Twitter Blue tick accounts are fueling Ukraine war misinformation, with pro-Russian voices more likely to pay for amplification. The report debunked several Russian claims spread on Twitter. Jonathan criticises the platform, arguing it benefits disinformation over truth.

Frontline Updates
Ukraine continues to attack south of Bakhmut, making gains near Klishchivka and Kurdyumivka despite heavy Russian aviation strikes. Satellite images show intense fighting has stripped away tree lines used for cover. Ukrainians are also pushing near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia, where they captured a large haul of Russian equipment and ammunition.

Military Aid and Cluster Munitions
Ukraine is now using three of its indigenous Bohdana self-propelled 155mm guns. Poland secretly transferred 12 Mi-24 combat helicopters to Ukraine. The US is sending cluster munitions which could help Ukraine target Russian trenches, though this is controversial. The UK discouraged their use while relying on US cluster munitions in NATO exercises, which Jonathan calls hypocritical.

Geopolitics and NATO
Germany will likely block Ukraine's hopes for immediate NATO accession, but Ukraine is expected to gain commitments of long-term military support at the Vilnius summit, according to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. He also discussed increased defence spending, the impact of the Wagner revolt, and China's potential role in ending the war.

Wrap up
In response to Zelensky's return with Azov Regiment officers, the Kremlin cancelled Putin's planned visit to Turkey next month, a significant development in Ukraine's favour. Jonathan apologises for the long update, requests likes and shares, and thanks listeners for their support before moving on to the frontline update.
