📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Russian Losses and Aid to Ukraine
- Russian losses include 490 personnel, 10 tanks, 5 APCs, 5 artillery systems, 3 MLRS, 2 drones, 9 vehicles, and 1 special equipment
- Latvia is providing Stinger MANPADs to Ukraine
- Canada is buying a NASAMS air defense system to donate to Ukraine
- Pakistan may dispatch 159 containers of ammunition to Ukraine via Poland
- Czech company Excalibur is upgrading T-72 tanks for Ukraine
Russian Buildup in Belarus
There are worrying signs of a Russian military buildup in Belarus, including troops, tanks, artillery, and logistical support equipment. This could indicate preparations for an attack on Ukraine from the north, possibly as a feint or to draw Ukrainian forces away from other fronts. The arrival of logistical equipment is a strong sign an offensive may be imminent.

Frontline Update
- Fighting remains largely positional in the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna area
- The ground is freezing which impacts the use of mechanized equipment
- Zelensky spoke about the difficult situation in Donetsk, constant Russian attacks, and Russia's disregard for its own troops and civilians
- Ukraine is developing drones with ranges up to 800km which could hit targets deep inside Russia
- The focus is shifting from giving Ukraine enough weapons to avoid losing to enabling them to win
Battle for Soledar
The battle for Soledar has been intense with the Russians making costly gains:
- Wagner Group forces have taken much of the town after heavy fighting
- The Ukrainians may have conducted a fighting withdrawal to the western outskirts
- Tactics involved using expendable troops (convicts) in initial waves to find weak points that better troops could then exploit
- The Russians have suffered very heavy casualties in the process as evidenced by piles of body bags
- Capturing Soledar allows the Russians to threaten the T0513 highway between Bakhmut and Siversk
- Other key settlements like Krasnohirka are under pressure
- Losing Siversk would jeopardize the Ukrainian position in Bakhmut and Kreminna
Bakhmut Situation
- Heavy fighting continues in the Bakhmut area with the Russians making incremental gains
- Nearby settlements like Pidhorodne have fallen opening up Bakhmut's flanks
- The Russians may attempt to encircle Bakhmut rather than assault it directly
- Logistics are becoming difficult for the Ukrainians as supply routes come under fire
- Casualties are high on both sides but the Russians are suffering worse as the attackers
Southern Front
Not much has changed on the southern front in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia. The Russians continue to shell Kherson indiscriminately, having destroyed the city's firefighting capability as they withdrew. The use of incendiary munitions on civilian areas is likely a war crime.
