"It is utterly irresponsible for one human to have so much money now i say this because i have written on this before uh and i'm just going to spend a second talking about this i wrote an article back in 2020 uh called on defending billionaires and this idea that people defend billionaires because they are their wealth creators and we should give them tax breaks because that money will go to towards creating wealth is utter bs it does not work there's no evidence to suggest this this works that kind of trickled down economics"
Hello Team!
Jonathan introduces the second part of the Ukraine War News Update for November 21, 2023, covering military aid and geopolitics news. He mentions there is quite a lot of content to go through in both segments.

U.S. Military Aid Package to Ukraine
- The U.S. has announced a $100 million military aid package for Ukraine, despite the hold up in Congress regarding the $5 billion of aid already budgeted.
- The package includes:
- A single HIMARS system and additional ammunition
- Stinger anti-aircraft missiles
- 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds
- TOW missiles
- Javelin and AT4 anti-armor systems
- Over 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition
- Demolition munitions for obstacle clearing
- Cold weather gear and spare parts
- Regarding the single HIMARS system, John Ridge suggests three possibilities:
- 1
- 2
- 3
Long-Range Weapons Supply and Austin's Ukraine Visit
- According to the Washington Post, the USA will be able to provide long-range weapons and ammunition to Ukraine "for some time".
- Lloyd Austin's trip to Ukraine is a strong signal that American support will not be undermined by the Israel-Hamas conflict.
- There are claims that shell provision to Ukraine has decreased by 30% due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, which is a real worry.
Humanitarian Aid and Alleged Armenian Missile Transfer
- Hungary has donated 100 artificial lung ventilation devices worth over €3 million to Ukraine, which were distributed to medical institutions throughout the country.
- A Russian source, Rebar, claims Armenia will transfer its Tochka-U ballistic missiles and a type of air defense missile to Ukraine. If true, this would be significant as Ukraine needs these weapons and it sends a clear message about Armenia's alignment with the West.
Demining Equipment and New Ukrainian Drones
- Japan has contributed to humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine by donating equipment including 20 pickup trucks, 20 station wagons, 50 metal detectors, and 150 containers of fire extinguishing liquid.
- Ukraine has unveiled the new "Backfire" drone that can fly up to 35km behind enemy lines. Its main feature is a powerful GPS antenna resistant to Russian jamming. Serial production is being prepared.
- Ukraine's forces now have three more 3D printed "Titan Falcon" drones with a 400km range and 6-hour flight time. They are being tested in operational conditions.
- The first 3,000 FPV drones from "Operation Unity" (a joint project between United24, Monobank, and Come Back Alive) have been received by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. One of the largest donors was Favbet.
Ukrainian Troops Training on Leopard 1 Tanks in Germany
Members of the 146th Repair Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are undergoing training on Leopard 1 tanks in Germany. Images show them learning about the engine and repairs.

EU Purchases of Russian LNG
- Despite promises to wean off Russian fossil fuels, EU countries have funded Putin's war machine with £5.4 billion through the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2023.
- Spain and France are the second and third largest buyers behind China. Spain spent €1.8 billion, France €1.5 billion, and Belgium €1.36 billion on Russian LNG in the first 9 months of 2023.
- This is a difficult issue as Europe needs consistent energy supply and completely shifting to alternative sources is challenging due to global supply and demand.
- Jonathan argues that while it's easy to criticize, real solutions are needed. He suggests a greater shift to renewables underwritten by nuclear and other non-hydrocarbon sources.
Russian Military Footwear Imports and Putin's New Superyacht
- In 2023, Italian, German and other European companies supplied the Russian army with $4.1 million worth of footwear production components, which should be sanctioned according to the Trap Aggressor project.
- Putin's new $50 million superyacht "Victoria" has arrived at a shipyard in Istanbul. It is his 9th known yacht.
- Jonathan goes on a passionate rant about the grotesque wealth inequality this represents, especially during wartime. He argues billionaires should be taxed more as "trickle-down economics" does not work to stimulate the economy, backed by examples like Trump's tax cuts and the Kansas "Brownback" experiment. He states you could take all but $1 billion from every billionaire and solve world hunger for 282 years.
Geopolitical Updates
- NATO members Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria are close to an agreement on a joint force to clear mines drifting into the Black Sea due to the war.
- Polish President Duda stated Ukraine is a place where Polish security is at stake and support for Ukraine is obvious regardless of which political party is in power. However, Polish farmers have joined a protest blocking the Ukraine-Poland border, causing a 53km truck traffic jam.
- Lithuania will fine companies for non-compliance with international sanctions and send the money to Ukraine.
- Finland is likely to close its entire border with Russia starting November 22 evening as Russia has started pushing large groups of Somali, Syrian and Iraqi migrants toward the Finnish border.
- NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg expressed concern about the rise in Russian malign influence and secessionist rhetoric in Bosnia, reaffirming NATO's strong support for Bosnia-Herzegovina's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Visits to Kyiv and Zelensky's Media Outreach
- German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius made a second unannounced visit to Kyiv, visiting a memorial to the 2014 Euromaidan Revolution on its 10th anniversary.
- Moldovan President Maia Sandu and European Council President Charles Michel also arrived in Kyiv on November 21.
- Zelensky met with Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch in Kyiv. While distasteful, Jonathan argues it's important for Ukraine to get influential media outlets like Fox News on their side to control the narrative and messaging.
- Under an initiative by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a visit of 15 African journalists from 11 countries to Ukraine to highlight Russian aggression. Jonathan sees this as a savvy move, as Africa is a key target for Russian disinformation and influence.
