Jonathan provides an update on the frontlines of the Ukraine war for 7th February 2023. He discusses the potential for a large-scale Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine in mid to late February, although some Russian nationalist voices are skeptical about Russia's ability to launch a successful offensive.

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND

Northeast Sector - Kupyansk to Svatove to Kreminna

• The Russians have likely made tactical gains northeast of Kupyansk and some sources claim they have taken Synkivka. Geolocated footage confirms they have broken through Ukrainian defences in Dvorichna and established positions on the western outskirts.
• Russian sources claim advances west of previous positions on the Svatove-Kreminna line, through the Zhuravka forest south of Dibrova. Elements of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division reportedly pushed Ukrainian forces from high ground around the Mekivka-Ploshchanka-Nevske line.
• The Ukrainians repelled attacks near Kreminna and Shypylivka but did not mention repelling attacks further west near Yampolivka or Nevske, suggesting possible Russian gains there.

Bakhmut and Soledar

• Supply to Bakhmut continues despite constant Russian shelling. Wagner financier Prigozhin noted fierce battles are occurring and Ukrainian troops are not withdrawing, indicating the threat of encirclement is not yet imminent.
• The Russians are using human wave tactics in Bakhmut which is working in their favour as they make slow, painful gains. They have made serious gains in the northern suburbs.
• West of Soledar, Wagner forces advanced from Blahodatne and the train station at Sil towards Ukrainian outposts in the hills and Vasyukivka. North of Bakhmut near Paraskoviivka and Krasna Hora fighting continues.
• A Ukrainian brigade partially withdrew to Sloviansk after which the defence is crumbling as Russian units push through from the north and Stupky.
• In southern Bakhmut the Sobachevsky residential district is being stormed and control expanded near the cemetery. Wagner reached the Chasiv Yar road which is now under fire control.

Avdiivka, Marinka and Vuhledar

• Around Avdiivka the Russians attacked Vesele in the north, Krasnohorivka and near the highway in the south but none succeeded. The southern attack came with considerable casualties.
• In Marinka, a Ukrainian company of the 79th Brigade was practically destroyed with over a dozen men taken prisoner. The commander withdrew units to reserve positions. Fighting has resumed in the centre and northeast of the city.
• Near Vuhledar, positional fighting and artillery duels continue. The Russians attempted assaults with up to 30 armoured vehicles damaged or destroyed. The 155th and 40th Naval Infantry Brigades are largely destroyed. The Russians continue to attack the same place from the same direction despite pre-sighted Ukrainian artillery.

Southern Front - Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts

• In Zaporizhzhia, there is minor fighting around Dorozhnianka south of Huliaipole and Nestorianka south of Orikhiv.
• Overnight in Kherson, the Ukrainians destroyed two Russian sabotage groups and two enemy boats on islands in the Dnipro River. Two Russian strongholds on the Kinburn Spit were also destroyed.
• Geolocated combat footage showed Russian artillery striking a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group near Kruhle Lake on the Dnipro River Delta. The area is quite active with stuff going on every night and day.
