🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses
- 540 liquidated Russian personnel, a significant increase from the previous day
- 4 tanks, 17 APVs (armoured personnel vehicles), 14 artillery systems, 4 MLRS destroyed
- 1 helicopter (likely Ka-52) and 7 drones lost
- 29 vehicles/fuel tanks destroyed, a notable uptick
- 8 pieces of special equipment (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic warfare) eliminated
Russian Casualty Report
- Joint investigation by Meduza and Mediazona reveals at least 47,000 Russian soldiers died in Ukraine by May 27, 2023
- Total Russian casualty count estimated at 125,000+, not including missing, captured or Donbas proxy forces
- In 15 months, 3 times more Russians died than in 10 years in Afghanistan; 9 times more than in First Chechen War
- Limitations to the study acknowledged, but provides a foundation for understanding true losses
Convict Soldiers' Complaints
Another video shows Russian convicts claiming they are being purposefully murdered by their own artillery. Their company has lost 75% of personnel, with wounded given only 2 days to heal before being sent back. The convicts say they came to fight fascists but their own command are the real fascists.
