- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Overnight News: Pyrotechnics Warehouse Fire in Russia
A large fire broke out at a pyrotechnics warehouse in Kemerovo, Russia, reaching 600 square meters according to Russian media. The FSB has blamed Ukrainian entities like the Ukrainian MOD for the recent uptick in fires in Russia.

Frontline Updates and Narratives
- There are differing narratives about Ukraine's offensive progress. Some US officials suggest Ukraine should reallocate resources from east to south.
- The Guardian reports British sources are reluctant to comment on the outcome of a border meeting between Admiral Tony Radakin and Ukrainian generals, but indications are the strategy has changed to focus on the Zaporizhzhia front.
- Ukraine may need to conduct additional conscription to replace troop losses, especially in areas like Robotyne, Orikhiv and Velyka Novosilka where they've made costly gains.
- Opinions differ on the state of Russian reserves, with some saying Russia still has capable reinforcements to deploy.
Military Aid
- The Netherlands will transfer all its F-16s to Ukraine except a few for training Ukrainian pilots.
- Sweden's government is open to sending Gripen fighters to Ukraine after joining NATO.
- Finland announced a €94 million military aid package, its 18th for Ukraine.
- Ukraine is using iron decoys identical to real combat vehicles to draw Russian Lancet strikes.
- Photos show Ukrainian forces now operating Leopard 1 tanks, in addition to their Leopard 2A4s.
- Ukraine's domestic arms industry is stepping up, e.g. producing 122mm artillery shells and up to 500 attack drones per month.
Other News
- Lukashenko made contradictory statements about offering security guarantees to Prigozhin. His guilty demeanor suggests Putin was behind Prigozhin's presumed assassination.
- A second bulk carrier ship left Odesa after being stuck for 18 months due to the Russian blockade.
- Some of Putin's strongest backers like Orban are now calling for an immediate ceasefire as panic grows about where the war is headed.
- Wagner recruited a convicted Russian child kidnapper who fought in Ukraine, was pardoned, and has now been arrested again for the same crime, highlighting issues with using convicts in the war.
Look Who The Nazis Are Now
In St. Petersburg, Russia, a 41-year-old Al Jazeera reporter was attacked on the street during a live broadcast. The assailant demanded she speak Russian, beating her and causing brain bruising and a concussion. She is recovering in hospital.
