"This should have been done yesterday, that's why I'm doing it first thing today...I was unable to do any videos last night because I had to go out to a local cricket club quiz...where last year we came second actually came first but there was some ringer from South Africa...anyway should have been a stewards inquiry we came second...we're hoping to improve this year, come first, we came third, picture round let us down...absolute shocker anyway too many beers later here I am!"
Hello Team
🎦 00:00-00:47⏩
Jonathan welcomes everyone to the channel for this Ukraine War Frontline Update for 19th April 2024. He explains that he is running a day behind schedule as he was out last night at his local cricket club quiz. He jokes about coming second last year because a "ringer" was in the opposing team. This year they were hoping to come first but only managed third place as the picture round let them down! He's clearly feeling a little delicate after too many beers! He then explains the different lines on the maps he uses for his updates.

Donetsk Frontline: Russian advances in Novel Konyove and Ocheryne
🎦 01:18-04:06⏩
Jonathan explains that the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) won't be included today due to time constraints. The Russians are pushing forward in Novel Konyove and along the railway line up to Ocheryne. Jonathan explains that the Russians will continue to probe weaknesses and exploit them until it becomes too difficult. He uses the example of Avdiivka where the Russians advanced until they reached the Derna River but have now seemingly switched their efforts further north due to the challenging topography - a river crossing with mechanised equipment would be extremely difficult. The Ukrainians appear to have made gains in Bakhmut and Jonathan suspects that this is more likely due to inaccurate mapping by Surat Maps - overestimating the extent of Russian control in this area. All three map sources confirm that the Russians are making advances in the north of this area of the frontline. Surat Maps had initially claimed a much larger advance towards Chiretny before revising this, suggesting that either the Ukrainians counter attacked or they had overestimated Russian control. The fighting in this area is intense with fighting continuing for an electricity substation in Ocheretny. Jonathan explains that this all points to the Russians making substantial gains in this area of the frontline.

Donetsk Frontline: Russian advances around Novol Konyove, Pervomaisky and Mariinka
🎦 04:06-06:11⏩
Jonathan highlights that there appears to be further, albeit minor, adjustments/re-jigging of the frontline around Chiretny. All three map sources confirm Russian advances around Novol Konyove, with Russian forces pushing north and into the settlement itself. Jonathan explains that he is unable to bring in any other sources to support the claims made by the maps due to the time of the recording (early morning) but thanks JR for his work - "You're a mate, legend!". Surat Maps claims some further Russian advances from Pervomaisky towards Netaylove - a little worrying as it indicates further, incremental Russian gains. Jonathan urges caution over these claims though. Andrew Perpetua's maps suggest that the Ukrainians may have pushed the Russians back in the Mariinka area on the way to Herivka - or perhaps the Russians didn't have full control in the first place. This casts doubt over Surat Maps assessment of Russian control further south. Further clarity is required but this has been a relatively quiet sector of the front line recently with much of the fighting concentrated around Krasnohorivka.

Donetsk Frontline: No change in Krasnohorivka and Novomokrivka
🎦 06:11-07:28⏩
Jonathan highlights that there have been no changes in Krasnohorivka which is good news for the Ukrainians, although there's no doubt that the fighting is fierce. Novomokrivka has also been relatively quiet recently although there have been changes to the north and south of the settlement. Andrew Perpetua has made changes to his map to the North of Vodymyrivka - not because of Russian advances, but because there was a lack of clarity/information about this area of the frontline previously and these changes bring his maps into alignment with the other maps Jonathan uses. After a brief interruption caused by Jonathan's doorbell and his glasses reacting to the sunlight he explains that this concludes the changes in the Donbas region.

Southern Frontline and Dnipro River: No change
🎦 07:28-08:14⏩
There is no change on the Southern frontline or along the Dnipro River. Although Jonathan suspects that there may be some further information to share which will become clear when he has a chance to review the ISW's daily report. Most of the fighting remains concentrated in the Avdiivka area and he suggests that not too much attention should be paid to areas south of Avdiivka.
