US to allow military contractors to deploy to Ukraine
🎦 00:15-06:51⏩
The US is moving towards removing the ban on deploying military contractors to Ukraine. The contractors will focus on maintaining and repairing US-supplied military equipment. Jonathan highlights that this is significant as it will speed up repairs, meaning equipment like HIMARS will no longer need to be sent back to the US, saving time and money. He explains that this should not be misconstrued as deploying troops to fight: it will likely involve a few dozen to a couple of hundred contractors. He explains that it's a safer option than sending troops, highlighting that Ukraine is safer than Iraq or Afghanistan where US contractors have operated for decades. It's a really important move and signals to allies that they could do the same.

- He notes that this is very close to the frontlines, unlike the US contractors who are likely to be based in the West of Ukraine, and questions whether the North Korean troops will be "cannon fodder".

- He explains that this will concern both South Korea and China.
