"This war is terrible, but the alternative is even more terrible."
Hello Team!
Jonathan is on holiday in Crete, Greece and shares a humorous anecdote about large amphoras (jugs) at the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion. Today's video is sponsored by Mitch Mazerolle who shares an apt quote from ancient Greek historian Polybius: "war is a terrible thing, but it is not so terrible that we should submit to anything in order to avoid it." Jonathan agrees this war in Ukraine is terrible but the alternative of Russian occupation would be worse.

- Russians don't have the troop numbers to sustain momentum of any gains here
Bakhmut Area

- One Ukrainian source claims they made tactical advances in Bakivka Yahidne and Roz Valley, potentially significant if true

Southern Donetsk-Zaporizhzhia Frontline
- Ukrainians liberated Urozhaine as Russians withdrew - both mappers (Andrew Perpetua and Suriya Maps) agree this area is now under Ukrainian control
- Russians may withdraw from Zavitne Bazhannia next to more defensible positions
- Heavy Ukrainian shelling has turned the area around Robotyne into a "hellscape" - a huge amount of ammunition is being expended here by Ukraine
- Ukrainians have overcome the densest minefields around Robotyne but still face challenges assaulting Russian defensive lines
- One Russian source claims Ukrainians were pushed out of eastern outskirts of Robotyne on Aug 12, but unclear if this is still the case
Kherson-Dnipro River Area
- Large Ukrainian military convoy reportedly moving towards Kherson frontline, purpose unclear but could be used to expand bridgehead
- Footage released of successful Ukrainian crossing of Konka River and attacks on Russian troops near Kozachi Laheri from a week ago - Ukrainians have advanced beyond this point since then

- Analysts suggest Ukraine is wisely seeking to establish multiple footholds on Dnipro right bank to stretch Russian defenses and disguise main effort to cross in force
