Kakhovka Dam Destruction
The breach of the Kakhovka Dam is a terrible disaster that is underreported in the news. It severely impacts Ukrainian agriculture, puts the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant at risk, and is equivalent to using a tactical nuclear weapon on the escalation ladder. The devastation is massive, with over 600 square kilometers affected. Tragically, Russian forces are shelling Ukrainian rescuers attempting to evacuate citizens from flooded areas. President Zelensky visited Kherson, and shortly after, Russians shelled an evacuation point he had just been to. The dam's destruction has long-term economic, ecological and humanitarian consequences.
