🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA

  1. These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
  2. These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
  3. All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
  4. Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
  5. Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
  6. Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
  7. Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
  8. All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
  9. Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

Ukrainian General Staff Reports Heavy Russian Losses

🎦 00:11-04:02

Jonathan reviews the Ukrainian General Staff's report on Russian losses, noting 870 personnel, 9 tanks, 17 APVs, and 21 artillery systems as significant figures. He analyses these numbers in comparison to recent trends, speculating on the current state of the frontline and potential Russian preparations for a larger offensive. Referencing Andrew Perpetua's comprehensive loss statistics, Jonathan highlights the substantial amount of military equipment impacted in the conflict.

Ukrainian Losses: Two MiG-29s Downed, Air Defence Systems Hit

🎦 04:02-06:04

Shifting focus to Ukrainian losses, Jonathan reports the downing of two MiG-29s by Russian Iskander-M cluster munitions. This event, he speculates, might be linked to the Ukrainian attack on the Jankoi airbase, which targeted Russian S-400 systems. Further Ukrainian losses include an Estrella 10 air defence system, along with its launcher and mast, possibly targeted in retaliation for the MiG-29 strike. Jonathan points out the significance of these losses for Ukraine, emphasizing their value in comparison to the relatively less vital Russian equipment destroyed, despite the larger quantity.

Russian Tu-22M3 Bomber Downed: A Turning Point?

🎦 06:04-13:45

Jonathan discusses the significant news of a Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bomber being shot down. While Russian sources claim a technical malfunction, open-source intelligence suggests otherwise. Footage from Anton Gerashchenko reveals the bomber was targeted after launching missiles at Dnipro, with a second bomber turning back. Jonathan emphasises the potential impact of this incident, questioning if this will deter future Russian bomber deployments. He delves into the technical details, including the possibility of Ukraine utilising heavily modified older air defence missiles and the bomber being hit at a distance of 365km from the frontline. The downing of the bomber is lauded as a major victory for the Ukrainian Air Force. Jonathan further highlights the successful interception of two KH-22 anti-ship missiles, signifying improvement in Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. Despite these successes, the overnight attacks caused significant civilian casualties in Dnipro, a point Jonathan finds particularly distressing.

Atakams Missiles Confirmed in Jankoi Air Base Strike

🎦 13:45-14:46

Jonathan discusses footage that confirms the use of US-supplied Atakams missiles in the Jankoi air base attack. He expresses a slight preference for indigenously developed missiles, highlighting the issue of reliance on foreign supply chains. However, he acknowledges the effectiveness of Atakams in neutralizing airbases. He briefly mentions the tragic death of a child injured in the Dnipro attack, condemning the ongoing Russian targeting of civilian infrastructure.

Strikes in Krivy Rih: Zelensky's Birthplace Targeted

🎦 14:46-16:07

Jonathan reports on Russian strikes in Krivy Rih, Zelensky's birthplace. He shares the emotional response of journalist Jay in Kyiv, who expresses outrage over the continued attacks on residential areas and civilian casualties. Jonathan acknowledges the understandable anger and frustration, hinting at his own growing fury at the situation.

Jonathan's Outrage: A Response to Marjorie Taylor Greene

🎦 16:07-22:33

Prompted by the civilian deaths in Dnipro, Jonathan expresses his disgust with US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's stance on the war. He criticizes her pro-Russian stance, particularly her downplaying of Russia’s actions and accusations of Nazi influence within Ukraine. He contrasts this with the informed perspective of historian Timothy Snyder, whom Greene publicly confronted. Jonathan laments Greene’s influence on US foreign policy, labelling her as a mouthpiece for Russian disinformation and calling for an investigation into her conduct. He believes her actions go beyond free speech and border on endangering national and international security.

Recap: Ukrainian Successes at Jankoi and the True Cost of War

🎦 22:33-32:55

Jonathan revisits the Ukrainian attack on the Jankoi airbase. He lists the equipment destroyed, emphasizing the high value of targets like S-400 launchers and Fundament M airspace surveillance equipment. He speculates that Russian footage showing the destruction of two MiG-29s, potentially in retaliation, was deliberately withheld for a strategically advantageous moment. He praises the use of cluster munitions in this context, particularly against dispersed targets, highlighting their value despite ethical concerns. Shifting to the broader context, Jonathan cites Anton Gerashchenko's analysis of the current situation. Gerashchenko argues that despite challenges, Western support for Ukraine is increasing, while Russia’s attempts to control the narrative are failing. He predicts an escalation of the conflict, with Russia potentially needing further mobilization to sustain its offensive, a move that could severely damage the Russian economy and Putin's regime.

Pipeline Explosion in Kharkiv and Russian Su-25 Activity Near Chazyvyar

🎦 32:55-34:25

Jonathan reports a pipeline explosion in the Kharkiv region, impacting Ukrainian energy infrastructure. He also highlights footage of a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft operating near Chazyvyar. This activity, he argues, underlines the urgent need for increased air defence supplies for Ukraine, noting the declining presence of previously abundant MANPADS like Stingers.

Operational Command South Spokesperson Natalia Humeniuk Dismissed

🎦 34:25-35:23

Jonathan discusses the dismissal of Natalia Humeniuk, spokesperson for Operational Command South. He mentions protests against her, citing her alleged restriction of journalist access. Humeniuk's removal follows a pattern of Ukrainian officials facing consequences for their handling of media and information, drawing a parallel to the previous case of Hannah Maliar.

Renewed Drone Attacks on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Raise Concerns

🎦 35:23-36:21

Jonathan reports on another drone attack targeting the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. While both sides blame each other, Jonathan finds the Russian refusal to allow IAEA inspection suspicious, suggesting their likely involvement.
