"In the constant contest between aviation measures and countermeasures, it is likely that Russia has gained a temporary advantage in southern Ukraine, especially with attack helicopters employing longer-range missiles against ground targets."
Hello Team!
Jonathan apologizes for the slightly later than usual video. He mentions that life has gotten away from him a bit.

Russian Losses
- The Ukrainian General Staff figures show a definite uptick in Russian losses across all categories.
- 670 liquidated personnel, 12 tanks, 23 APVs, 22 artillery systems, 3 MLRS.
- One helicopter was taken out. The UK MOD update revealed Russia has reinforced its attack helicopter force in the south with over 20 extra helicopters.
- 7 drones, 12 cruise missiles shot down (from the night before). There was a cruise missile and Kinzhal hypersonic missile attack on Kyiv during the South African delegation visit.
- 38 vehicles and fuel tanks destroyed, a massive number. One piece of special equipment also destroyed.
- BBC Russia and MediaZona are counting up confirmed Russian deaths based on social media reports, mainstream media etc. The bare minimum is now at 25,000 Russian dead, so the real figure will be several times higher.
Putin's Fanciful Claims
- Putin claimed Ukraine has lost 186 tanks and 418 armored vehicles during the counter-offensive, which is absolutely fanciful according to Jonathan.
- There is so much video evidence coming out every day to support the Ukrainian figures.
- Putin also claimed they've destroyed 5 Patriot complexes. Ukraine only has 2 whole batteries at the moment with a few extra launchers.
- Jonathan says you'd need to send 10 pinpoint accurate Kinzhal hypersonic missiles or a tactical nuke to destroy a whole Patriot battery, as they are spread out over a large area.
- If you believe Putin's figures, you are incredibly gullible according to Jonathan.
Fires and Drone Attacks in Russia
- There have been several fires near key infrastructure in Russia:
- A strong fire near the CHP-22 power station on the outskirts of Moscow.
- A fire threatened a thermal power plant in Dzerzhinsky (at a construction base next to it).
- A large-scale fire at what is believed to be an emergency services building.
- Power outages in two places in Crimea yesterday, believed to be the result of Ukrainian activity or pro-Ukrainian partisans.
- A fire at the Kalovksy military air base in the Moscow region.
- Ukraine is expected to increase attacks on the Russian power grid in coming weeks. Electricity to Russian railway logistics is seen as their armed forces' Achilles heel.
Military Aid
- Ukraine will not be able to get F-16s before 2024 according to Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov. Training of pilots will take 4 months but training of all the support personnel and arranging infrastructure will take longer.
- Sweden signed a deal with Ukraine to train Ukrainian pilots on JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, as part of a larger $23.5M package. This implies the Gripens will eventually be given to Ukraine.
- The UK has actually donated 22 Challenger 2 tanks, not 14 as officially stated, according to information Jonathan has. The 28 figure came from Ukraine but was never officially confirmed.
- Portugal is stepping up with 14 M113 APCs and 9 105mm howitzers.
- A Turkish drone manufacturer will provide long-endurance UAV systems to Ukraine, bankrolled by the UK's international fund for Ukraine.
- A bill has been submitted to the US Congress to allocate $80M for purchasing and transferring ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine.
- Slovenia will provide €228,405 of material assistance to help with the consequences of the Kakhovka dam destruction.
Frontline Update
- Ukraine has advanced 2km in multiple directions but faces heavy resistance. The UK MOD says Russia likely has a temporary advantage in the air in southern Ukraine with attack helicopters employing long-range missiles. However, this has meant Russia is using Ka-52s in a riskier way and 3 have been lost in the past week.
- There is fighting around Pyatykhatky, west of Velyka Novosilka. Ukrainian forces have advanced between Novodonetsk and Rivnipil. Rivnipil itself is in the grey zone.
- Some advances have been made west of Vuhledar and Pavlivka but no great detail.
- Russian sources claim Ukraine has deployed a significant number of electronic warfare systems in Donetsk, resulting in huge Russian drone losses. This may indicate a Ukrainian operation in the region is imminent.
- Clearing mines is going to be one of the biggest long-term challenges. Minefields are everywhere and slowing the Ukrainian advance.
Geopolitics
- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Kyiv in a somewhat controversial trip. There were issues with the delegation being held up in Poland. In Kyiv, Ramaphosa called for peace and diplomacy while confirming South Africa would defy the ICC arrest warrant for Putin. He also said "there are offenses on both sides", which has not been well received by pro-Ukraine voices.
- Russia claims to be ready for peace talks with Ukraine "on realistic terms" but says there are no prerequisites for this currently.
- The boycott of Mondelez International, owner of Cadbury, Oreo, Toblerone etc, is growing in Scandinavia as the company refuses to close its branches in Russia. Jonathan suggests boycotting them and making your reasons public.
- Putin claimed that "according to his Jewish friends", Zelensky is not actually Jewish and is a "shame to the Jewish people".
- Estonia is drafting a law to use Russian assets for Ukraine's reconstruction. The US is trying to do similar. The UK has concerns about the legal ramifications of liquidating frozen Russian assets.
Wrap up
Jonathan thanks the viewers for listening and apologizes for struggling with his words sometimes. He asks people to like, subscribe and share as he really appreciates the support. He mentions that his videos keep getting age-restricted by YouTube, likely due to trolls, which affects his ad revenue. Most of the time YouTube rescinds the decision on appeal but by then the time-sensitive videos have lower views. He acknowledges it's good for the viewer to not have ads but it's annoying for him as a creator.
