- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses
The Ukrainian General Staff reported the following Russian losses for the previous day:
- 590 personnel killed
- 5 tanks, 11 APVs destroyed
- 22 artillery systems and 1 MLRS destroyed
- 10 drones and 12 cruise missiles shot down
- 19 vehicles/fuel tanks and 4 pieces of special equipment destroyed
Jonathan notes the high number of artillery lost is unsustainable for Russia. Figures from Andrew Perpetua also show much higher Russian losses compared to Ukrainian.

Russian Attacks on Civilian Targets
Russia attacked a blood transfusion center in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region with a guided air bomb, causing deaths and injuries. President Zelensky condemned this as a war crime. In Kherson, Russia struck a cathedral twice, waiting for emergency services to arrive before the second strike. They also hit a library and hospital, killing a doctor. Jonathan questions if these are valid military targets.

Ukrainian Drone Strikes
Ukrainian drone company Escadrone has released videos showing numerous strikes by their kamikaze drones against Russian targets. FPV drones with RPG warheads are becoming a key part of Ukraine's offensive operations.

Satellite Images of Damaged Russian Ships
Satellite images show the careful strikes by Ukraine on the Russian landing ship Olengorsky Gornyak and SIG tanker in Novorossiysk port. The Ukrainians aimed to disable the ships without sinking them, to avoid causing an ecological disaster with an oil spill. This contradicted Russian propaganda about the environmental impact.

Overnight Russian Missile and Drone Attacks
Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine overnight with 2 waves of cruise missiles and Shahed drones, likely in retaliation for the damaged ships.
- 1st wave: 14 Kalibr cruise missiles launched, 12 shot down. 3 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles launched, none intercepted.
- 2nd wave: 27 Shahed drones launched, all shot down. 5 of 6 Kalibr and 13 of 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles shot down.
In total, 30 of 43 missiles were intercepted. The main target appeared to be Starokostiantyniv airbase in Khmelnytskyi region, where Ukraine's Su-24s that launch Storm Shadow missiles are based. 10 explosions were reported there but Ukraine likely moved the planes in advance. Attacks also hit a bus station, buildings and a warehouse in Khmelnytskyi. Kharkiv was struck twice by S-300 missiles fired from Belgorod. Explosions also reported in Russian-occupied Crimea.

Removal of Soviet Symbols from Ukrainian Monuments
Soviet symbols on the over 100m tall "Motherland" monument in Kyiv have been replaced with the Ukrainian trident, as part of Ukraine's "decommunization" efforts to remove Soviet monuments and insignia.

Russian Propaganda
Russian propagandist Sergey Markov claimed on TV that "American and British political technologists are making an artificial army in Ukraine that's united by a homosexual brotherhood, like the Spartans." Jonathan dismisses this as ridiculous.
