Military aid news
- Zelensky praised a new US defense aid package as "historic", which will include long-range missiles with cluster munitions according to leaked reports. He said there is a "historic decision" by the US to jointly produce weapons and defense systems, particularly air defense, in Ukraine.
- Germany is providing 50 surface drones, Gepard anti-aircraft guns, IRIS-T air defense systems, ammunition, mines, MRAPs, winter equipment and spare parts as part of a €400 million military aid package.
- The UK is increasing the number of Ukrainian soldiers it will train to 30,000 by the end of the year. British military teams are also training Ukrainian engineers in Poland on mine clearing.
Geopolitics
- Saudi Arabia has offered to mediate between Russia and Ukraine to end the war. In August, they hosted a summit focused on the Ukrainian peace formula.
- Latvia wants to close all Russian language public media until 2026 as part of its new national security concept.
- Human rights lawyers and Ukrainian prosecutors are preparing a war crimes dossier to submit to the ICC, accusing Russia of intentionally causing starvation in Ukraine. The goal is to enable the ICC to potentially indict Putin for using hunger as a weapon of war.
Rants about US politicians and commentators
Jonathan expresses anger and frustration at several US politicians and commentators for their stances on Ukraine:
- Marjorie Taylor Greene for spreading Putin's lies that Ukraine is harvesting children's organs
- Mike Lee for putting out "pathetic polls" suggesting the US is wasting money on Ukraine and implying NAFO is run by the CIA, Pentagon or George Soros
- "Solid Foe Life" for repeating Russian propaganda points and supporting Russia despite the evident war crimes, calling them a "moral monster"
He praises the strong pro-Ukraine rhetoric from Justin Trudeau and Ben Hodges. Jonathan argues the US government has failed to properly communicate to the American public the benefits and reasons for supporting Ukraine. He also discusses the "paradox of tolerance", arguing that as a liberal he has to be intolerant of the intolerance of figures like Putin. The West needs to be strong against such "bad guys" to prevent them from winning.
