📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Northeast Sector - Kupyansk to Kreminna to Svatove
- Not much news along this frontline. Andrew Perpetua notes little news, likely due to bad weather, partial media blackout and culmination of the Russian offensive.
- Contradictory claims around control of Mazanivka. Jonathan has taken back his marking of it as under Russian control.
- Some Russian advances claimed near Bilohorivka and Spivakivka.
Bakhmut Area
- Discussions around reported high Russian losses in Bakhmut are saturating the pro-war information space. Wagner leader Prigozhin claimed 20,000 Wagner deaths (10,000 convict recruits and 10,000 professional fighters).
- Russian military blogger Igor Girkin suggests actual Wagner losses could be over 40,000, much higher than Prigozhin's figures.
- Despite the capture of Bakhmut city, the Ukrainians are still fighting on the very outskirts according to some reports.
- Wagner is pulling out of Bakhmut to be replaced by conventional Russian forces.
- Some small Ukrainian gains to the north and south of Bakhmut.
Avdiivka, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Fronts
- Russian forces conducted a massive artillery strike on Avdiivka and launched airstrikes with unguided bombs on May 24.
- A significant failed Russian attack occurred southwest of Avdiivka around May 21-22, with an estimated 20 Russian vehicles destroyed.
- Ongoing fighting north and south of Avdiivka and around Marinka but no territorial changes.
- Not much information about the rest of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia fronts. No confirmed Russian ground attacks.
Southern Ukraine
- Russians continue to target Ukrainian positions in southern Ukraine with FAB-500 guided aerial bombs, including strikes on Kizimis and Bereslav in the Kherson region.
- Ukraine is softening up targets in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk oblasts ahead of an expected offensive, hitting Mariupol, Polohy, Tokmak and other locations.
Wrap Up
Jonathan thanks viewers for listening and concludes the frontline update. He suspects one of the main thrusts of an upcoming Ukrainian offensive will be along the Zaporizhzhia line.
