"It's effed up. Why, the interviewer asks. Because they're just sending people out to die. I haven't figured out what the purpose of the war is yet. We're just fighting and fighting."

Russian Losses
- 470 Russian personnel lost, lower than previous day but still significant
- 13 tanks, 28 artillery pieces, 5 MLRS lost - a serious loss
- 4 anti-aircraft warfare systems lost, likely elements of S-400 taken out by possible Neptune missiles
- 17 drones, 34 vehicles and fuel tanks lost, impacting Russian logistics
Oryx Visually Confirmed Losses
- Russia lost 17 pieces of equipment, including a T-90M tank. 40 out of ~100 T-90Ms have been lost, a significant portion of Russia's best tanks.
- Ukraine lost 4 pieces, including 2 drones - lower value losses compared to Russia
Mapper Andrew Perpetua's Reported Losses
- Reports closer to parity, but still favors Ukraine
- Russia lost an S-400 Triumph air defense battery worth $1.2 billion, a huge loss
- Ukraine lost some artillery like AHS Krab and Mastiff MRAPs
Ukrainian Radar Decoy
Russians claimed to destroy a Ukrainian R-18 radar with a cruise missile, but it was likely a decoy mock-up. Using a high-value missile on a single radar shows the potential impact, not just the cost comparison.

Russian 3rd Assault Brigade Losses
Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade dealt a crushing defeat to Russia's 72nd Separate Motor Rifle Brigade near Bakhmut. The Russian formation lost its chief of intelligence, 3 commanders, and almost all its infantry and officers - a significant loss as Russia has been reinforcing this area.

Attacks on Crimea and Black Sea Fleet
- S-400 air defense battery destroyed/damaged in Yevpatoria, Crimea. Conflicting claims on extent of damage.
- Drone attacks on Russian ships, 2 patrol ships possibly damaged. Footage shows a drone approaching a ship.
- Russia claims a drone was shot down attacking the corvette Samum.
- Explosions reported in Sevastopol. Ukraine likely to continue distance attacks on Crimea and Black Sea Fleet.
Shoigu's Changing Rhetoric
- Russian Defense Minister Shoigu's rhetoric has shifted from claiming air supremacy and Ukrainian forces destroyed in early 2022, to now saying they "survived the summer" and are defending.
- When asked about victory, Shoigu paused hesitantly before saying "we have no other option" - very telling.
- Shoigu previously threatened attacks on US/UK decision-making centers if Storm Shadow missiles were used, but this has not materialized. His threats seem to be empty rhetoric.
Russian Opinions on Mobilization
Moscow residents were asked about the potential second wave of mobilization. One young woman said "It's effed up...they're just sending people out to die. I haven't figured out what the purpose of the war is yet. We're just fighting and fighting." She doesn't think Russia wants to take over Ukraine and sees no obvious reason for war, but wonders how it will end.
