"Go to the pub, don't bother asking about each other's families and how you're doing, how's life. It's just like, get straight into politics and philosophy. Yeah, cool I am."

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses
- Ukrainian General Staff figures for Russian losses show an uptick across main categories, with 850 personnel lost, 7 tanks, 14 APVs, 17 artillery systems, 1 anti-aircraft warfare system, 13 drones, 25 vehicles/fuel tanks, and 7 pieces of special equipment
- Andrew Perpetua's mapping of daily losses from social media shows a rare day of Ukrainian losses outdoing Russian losses, possibly due to footage of boats and civilian vehicles being hit by Russian night vision FPV drones, a growing challenge for Ukraine
Civilian Casualties
The UN has confirmed the death of over 10,000 civilians in Ukraine since the war began, including 560 children. Jonathan reflects on the horror of the Mariupol theatre strike, which killed possibly 300+ people despite "children" being written outside. He emphasizes these are war crimes.

Overnight Drone and Missile Attacks
- Ukrainian air defenses destroyed all 14 Shahid drones launched by Russia overnight
- Russia also launched an Kh-22 missile that fell in an open area in Zaporizhzhia region, damaging houses with the blast wave
- 28 aerial bombs were dropped in the Bereslav region along the Dnipro River over 1 hour 40 minutes, a horrific rate indicating multiple planes. Mostly elderly civilians were killed or wounded.
- A hospital in Solidar was hit by two S-300 missiles, killing one and wounding eight
- Andrew Perpetua reports on the indiscriminate Russian shelling and bombing of civilian areas, particularly along the Dnipro
Russian Marines Targeted
Ukrainians targeted a gathering of the Russian 810th Marine Brigade in Starobeshevo (location disputed, either Kherson or Donetsk region). During an award ceremony and concert, a Ukrainian strike killed 25 and wounded 100 Russian soldiers. The paid singer from Moscow, Polina Menshik, was also killed. Ukraine Battle Map argues she was a legitimate military target for performing for the Russian invaders on occupied Ukrainian land.

- Sizable explosions also reported in Russian-occupied Mariupol
- A drone fell and exploded near a workshop at a chemical plant producing explosives in Bryansk, Russia. No casualties or damage reported by Russia.
Muddy Conditions Affecting Operations
The muddy conditions (rasputitsa) in Ukraine are proving challenging for military operations. Footage shows a howitzer and vehicles stuck in deep mud, which can affect the artillery and ammunition. Pumps are being used to remove water.

Misinformation on Twitter
Bloomberg has found that under Elon Musk's leadership, Twitter (now X) has transformed from a flawed but policy-driven system to a "free-for-all" where misinformation is rampant, confirming EU findings. Jonathan notes this matches his own observations.

- The deputy head of the criminal investigation department in Arkhangelsk was found dead on a train, officially from "suicide with a penknife", which many find suspicious
Frontline Update from Kenneth Gregg
Finnish fighter Kenneth Gregg, now doing charity work in Ukraine, provides a frontline update:
- Successful Ukrainian attacks near Holivka between Bakhmut and Avdiivka, taking a strategic height and surprising Russians
- Simultaneous Ukrainian counterattacks in Avdiivka itself, recapturing lost positions
- Russians face a dilemma in reinforcing the area, possibly pulling troops from Vuhledar
- Weather favors Ukraine with better equipment and waders to advance in muddy conditions
