📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Russian vs Ukrainian Gains in 2023
- A map shows Russian gains are greater than Ukrainian gains so far in 2023, as expected since Russia is on the offensive
- However, the gains are small considering this is supposed to be Russia's major offensive phase
- If Putin aims to take all of the Donbas by end of March or has maximalist goals to take all of Ukraine, it's unlikely to happen based on current progress
Northeast Sector: Kupyansk to Svatove to Kreminna
- An S-300 missile attack on Kupyansk hit administrative buildings and a healthcare centre, likely another Russian war crime
- Russians repelled Ukrainian attempts to regain positions near Hryanykivka and Kreminna
- Russians are attempting to advance through densely defended Ukrainian lines towards Kreminna
- Artillery stopped a 5-hour Ukrainian counter-offensive near Kreminna
- Russians seized some Ukrainian fortifications and heights northwest of Kreminna
- Poor weather is limiting Russian use of heavy equipment, but they are prioritising the Kreminna direction with T-90M tanks and Terminator vehicles
- Small group Russian assaults in Luhansk have been unsuccessful with losses of personnel and equipment
Bakhmut
- Wagner forces have made incremental gains in Bakhmut, with the city slowly being encircled
- Ukrainians may be preparing for a strategic withdrawal to high ground between Chasiv Yar and Bakhmut
- This would force Russians to fight over open ground and continue attriting Russian forces
- Some Ukrainian units like Magyar have been pulled out of Bakhmut, possibly in preparation for a withdrawal
- Fighting ongoing at key locations like the Meat Packing Plant, Zabakhmutka district, and near Ivanivske
- A Russian jet, likely an Su-24, was shot down southwest of Bakhmut near Yenakiieve
Avdiivka, Marinka and Vuhledar
- Typical back and forth fighting around Avdiivka, with Russians repelled at several locations
- A column of Russian infantry fighting vehicles was destroyed by Ukrainian tanks near Avdiivka
- Russian attempts to storm Ukrainian positions in Marinka and advance south of the city
- Russians focusing assaults east of Vuhledar after repeated failed frontal attacks
- Squad-sized Russian assaults of 10 soldiers or fewer occurring up to 5 times per day
- Ukrainian forces inflicting significant personnel and equipment losses on Russian mechanised units
Southern Fronts
- Not much activity reported around Zaporizhzhia aside from an S-300 strike on a building
- No particular news from Kherson front
- Russians continue building extensive trenches and fortifications in Crimea
- Ukrainian drones have struck several targets in Crimea over the past few days
Intercepted Call on Failed Russian Assault
An intercepted call between Russian soldiers discussed an unsuccessful assault near Ozaryanivka and Mayorsk. Out of 8 BMPs (infantry fighting vehicles) involved, only 1 survived. This supports Ukrainian loss figures showing significant Russian equipment losses.
