"While you screamed peace without weapons, Putin pulled together a massive amount of tanks, cruise missiles and rockets and aimed it at Ukraine."
Hello Team!
Jonathan provides the latest update on the Ukraine War, starting with the Ukrainian General Staff figures for Russian losses. He notes that these figures come with caveats but are somewhat accurate, supported by visually confirmed data. The losses include 470 liquidated personnel, 8 tanks, 10 APCs, 22 artillery systems, 1 MLRS, 2 anti-aircraft systems, 10 drones, 16 vehicles/fuel tanks, and 4 pieces of special equipment. Jonathan highlights the increasing losses of special equipment and the explicit targeting of artillery and air defence systems by Ukraine, particularly in the Zaporizhzhia region.

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses and Ukrainian Strikes
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) destroyed several Russian anti-aircraft systems, self-propelled guns, BMPs, tanks, and an electronic warfare system. This supports the idea that Ukraine is deliberately targeting these assets. Despite Russian gains in Spirina, they suffered losses of tanks and crews. The Russian army continues to face significant losses in Bakhmut, according to the Land Forces Chief.

Russian Attacks on Ukraine
Russia hit Dnipro, causing civilian casualties, including children. The total number of victims rose to 20, with 17 hospitalised. Russian forces also attacked Ukraine with cruise missiles and kamikaze drones, with Ukrainian air defences downing some of them. However, drones damaged infrastructure in Sumy Oblast, and two missiles hit an airfield in Kropyvnytskyi. Jonathan questions Russia's rationale for targeting Kyiv when other areas have weaker air defences.

Belgorod Region Situation
Pro-Ukrainian Russian volunteer forces continue to operate in Russia's Belgorod region, particularly around Shebekino. The Russian army does not fully control the area, and there are reports of looting and chaos. The Russian military is shelling its own towns, causing damage to infrastructure and civilian areas. Despite their limited numbers, these volunteer forces have caused significant disruption in a short period.

International Developments
- President Zelensky ordered an audit of Ukrainian air raid shelters after incidents where civilians, including children, died due to locked or inaccessible shelters during attacks.
- German Chancellor Olaf Scholz firmly responded to pro-Russian hecklers at a festival, defending Germany's military aid to Ukraine and condemning Putin's actions.
- Nigel Farage, a key figure behind Brexit, criticised the push for Ukraine to join NATO, calling it "total madness." Jonathan notes the importance of the EU in supporting Ukraine and countering Putin's intentions.
- The heads of the world's 20 largest intelligence agencies held a secret meeting in Singapore to discuss the Ukraine conflict and international crime, with representatives from the US, China, and India in attendance, but not Ukraine or Russia.
Eurasian Economic Union Developments
In a podcast, an expert discusses recent developments in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Kazakhstan's President Tokayev openly criticised the Kremlin and Belarus at a summit in Moscow, rejecting the idea of further political integration and highlighting the distinction between Belarus, Russia, and other EAEU members. The expert suggests that the EAEU has become a crucial tool for Russia to circumvent Western sanctions, and its establishment in 2014-2015 may have been timed to anticipate and counter such sanctions. The US and EU now face the challenge of closing these loopholes and ensuring the effectiveness of the sanctions regime.
