"It could be that they're running low on bombs, being a bit lazy. I don't know."
Hello Team!
Jonathan was a bit late with this update as he was watching the Portugal-Fiji rugby match where Portugal had an upset win. He mentions 99.9% of viewers probably don't care about that!

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses and Casualty Figures
- Russian losses reported by Ukraine's General Staff were much lower than previous days, likely due to a "Monday effect" where weekend numbers tend to be lower
- US estimates put Russian combat deaths at 120,000 vs. Ukraine's claim of 282,630, raising questions about what the Ukrainian figures include (deaths only or casualties too)
- The same report estimates Ukrainian deaths at 70,000, about half that of Russian deaths
- More wounded Russians may be dying due to inferior medical care and evacuation from front lines compared to Ukrainians
- Civilian death numbers are still unclear, especially for Mariupol
Equipment Losses
- Russia had a very bad day for equipment losses, especially heavy equipment like tanks, APCs, IFVs, and artillery
- Ukraine lost far less in comparison, about a 4:1 ratio in Russia's "favor"
- However, Ukraine did lose a valuable S-300P launcher, which alone could be considered as significant as all the Russian losses combined
- A Russian T-90M tank was catastrophically destroyed, likely by an ATGM, despite Russian propaganda claiming it was an Israeli tank destroyed by Hamas
HIMARS Strikes
- There seems to be an uptick in videos showing successful HIMARS strikes by Ukraine
- Over 40 Russian soldiers and valuable equipment like MLRS, artillery, and electronic warfare stations have been taken out in recent strikes
- The strikes are being directed by Ukrainian special forces using drones for targeting
Incidents in Russia
- An electrical substation fire in Tatarstan with no official cause given
- A large furniture warehouse fire
- A pensioner attempted to set fire to an enlistment office with a Molotov cocktail but was arrested
Distant Strikes
- A reported strike on a Russian ammo warehouse in Tokmak
- Analyst Andrew Perpetua noted a significant decrease in reported Russian airstrikes and bomb usage in recent days
- This could indicate Russia is running low on bombs, though other explanations like lack of planes or pilots are less likely
Elon Musk's Controversial Tweet
- Elon Musk posted (and later deleted) a tweet recommending the Twitter accounts "War Monitor" and "OSINTdefender" for following the war in real-time
- However, War Monitor is considered a pro-Russian account that posted anti-Semitic content
- This raised questions about where Musk is getting his information on the conflict and if it's influencing his views
Hypocrisy from Russian Military Reporter
- Russian reporter Sladkov celebrated Donetsk launching rockets at Ukraine for 4 days straight
- In the same post, he complained about Ukraine shelling Donetsk for 10 years
- Highlights the lack of self-awareness and hypocrisy among some Russian nationalist military bloggers
Wrap Up
Jonathan notes there isn't too much more to report on the ground, possibly because the information space is being "strangled" by other events like the attacks in Israel. He will discuss potential connections between Israel, Iran, Russia and Ukraine and the ramifications for Ukraine in the next geopolitics-focused video.
