"Every member of this council, every member of the United Nations, should tell Moscow enough. Enough using the Black Sea as blackmail. Enough treating the world's most vulnerable people as leverage. Enough of this unjustified, unconscionable war."

Hello Team!

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA

  1. These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
  2. These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
  3. All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
  4. Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
  5. Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
  6. Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
  7. Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
  8. All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
  9. Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

Russian naval vessel hit

Further footage has emerged of a Russian landing ship that was reportedly damaged by a Ukrainian maritime drone in the port of Novorossiysk. The ship appears to be heavily listing and sinking as it is being towed. It may go down completely.

Ukrainian psychological warfare

According to reports, Ukrainians have started dropping contraptions that imitate the sound of gunfire on Russian positions to make them think they are encircled. They are also using children's toys that echo and repeat sounds to confuse the Russians and warn Ukrainians of their positions.

  • The Russians have pushed the Ukrainians further into Bilohorivka and taken some heights on the outskirts, according to Rybar maps.
  • South of Novoselyvske near Kuzmivka, the Ukrainians have recaptured some areas. Heavy fighting continues in the forest belts.
  • The 92nd Mechanized Brigade engaged in heavy fighting near Kuzmivka-Novoselivka, destroying multiple pieces of Russian equipment including two tanks.

Bakhmut area update

  • According to analyst Radu Hossu, the Russians have abandoned Klishchiivka and it is now liberated by the Ukrainians.
  • Kurdiumivka has been attacked by Russian VDV (airborne) troops who were repelled by the Ukrainians. The village is about 30% under Ukrainian control.
  • The Ukrainians are predicted to advance to Opytne south of Bakhmut to cut off the road. They currently control up to the railway line in the northern part of southern Bakhmut.

Southern front update

  • Natalia Humeniuk, spokesperson for Operational Command South, says the initiative on the southern front is moving slowly but confidently towards the Ukrainian side. The destruction of ammunition depots is causing the Russians to lose munitions and territorial positions.
  • Ukrainian loitering munitions continue to swarm Staromaiorske near Velyka Novosilka. A Russian BRDM-2 AIFV and Akhmat MRAP were hit.
  • The Ukrainians are putting pressure on the Russians in this area with artillery, HIMARS and cluster munitions. The primary objective is to attrit Russian forces, particularly artillery and air defence, before moving in to take territory while conserving their own troops.

Military aid

  • Germany refuses to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus cruise missiles, saying it is not a top priority and the US is not providing similar missiles either. This could be a tactic to prompt the US to provide ATACMS.
  • The Ukrainian-made Trembita cruise missile, produced cheaply by volunteers, could be very useful. The plan is to produce up to 1,000 per month at a cost of $3,000-$10,000 each. Launching 20-30 simultaneously could overwhelm Russian air defences. Some may not carry warheads to add complexity. Potential targets include ammo dumps and command centres.
  • A Czech company whose motors were found in Russian drones claims it never supplied them directly and they were obtained through third parties, highlighting the difficulty in preventing Russia from acquiring Western components.

Geopolitics

  • The EU has expanded sanctions on Belarus in response to its involvement in the war, including bans on sensitive exports that could contribute to its military and technological enhancement. The measures aim to prevent Russia from evading sanctions through Belarus.
  • Ukraine is pursuing a sanctions case against VS Energy, a company owned by Russian oligarchs, that could set a precedent for confiscating Russian assets in the EU. A conviction could lead to a "landslide" of similar cases.
  • Iceland became the first European country to close its embassy in Russia, saying commercial, cultural and political ties are at a historic low and the embassy's work is no longer justified.
  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized Russia for weaponizing hunger, saying its war in Ukraine is an assault on the global food system. 91 UN member states have signed a communique committing to end the use of famine and food as weapons of war.
