📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Kupyansk to Kreminna
- Russian attacks were repelled around Mazyutivka, but overall it is quiet along this axis
- The tempo of Russian assaults has decreased from 5-7 daily to just 1 per day
- Russians gained some territory around the Siverskyi Donets river near Kreminna, as shown by pro-Ukrainian mapper Deep State Map
Bakhmut
- Bakhmut is now largely under Russian control after 9 months of fighting
- Wagner Group financier Prigozhin declared victory and announced Wagner's intent to withdraw by May 25th
- Ukrainian forces may still hold some buildings in the southwest as they withdraw
- The battle was costly for both sides in terms of lives lost and city destruction
- Ukraine's resistance allowed them to gain time to prepare offensives elsewhere
- The battle is not seen as a turning point for either side in the overall war
- Jonathan explains that Ukraine's objective in Bakhmut was to fix and attrit Russian troops, not necessarily to hold territory
- Prigozhin's withdrawal announcement could be a psyop to mislead Ukraine into counterattacking
Avdiivka and Marinka
- Russian attacks were repelled north and south of Avdiivka
- Russians claimed to advance along the railway north of Avdiivka from Krasnohorivka
- In Marinka, part of Pobjeda may now be under Russian control according to Syriac Maps, which would threaten Ukraine's defensive line, but this is unconfirmed
- Russian attacks were reported south of Velyka Novosilka towards Neskuchne
Zaporizhzhia and Kherson
- Not much activity reported in Zaporizhzhia, perhaps some attacks towards Drozdivka
- Ukraine is conducting raids and training for river crossing operations in Kherson using boats and pontoon bridges
- A Ukrainian commander claimed they control 90% of islands in the Dnipro River delta
- Russia is fortifying rear defenses in Kherson, worried Ukraine is preparing active operations
Ukrainian Commanders
There are unconfirmed Russian claims that top Ukrainian commanders like Zaluzhny and Syrsky were killed in recent strikes. Their absence from public statements is fueling speculation, but this could be Russian disinformation. Confirmation either way from Ukraine would help clarify the situation.
