"Avdiivka is a worry. They are making some minor gains, the Ukrainians, in the Robotina area. But other than that, it is, I think, really a case of having culminated, making sure they do keep the pressure up in a number of places and just get those forces reconstituted and get your equipment ready for a push."

Wrap up
In summary, Jonathan sees the Ukrainian counteroffensive as having culminated for now, with a need to reconstitute forces and equipment for a future push. He hopes that with continued degradation of Russian forces over the coming months using HIMARS, artillery and ATACMs, Ukraine can be in a much stronger position by March 2023 to mount a major counteroffensive. He notes the same challenges of Russian minefields and fortifications will remain, but this preparatory strategy could set the conditions for success.
