Jonathan provides an update on the frontlines of the Ukraine war as of December 19, 2022. He notes that information can be scarce on Mondays as some sources like ISW don't put out detailed reports on Sundays. The weather is currently unfavourable for major mechanised manoeuvres.

Overnight News
- Ukraine's official figures claim 520 Russian personnel killed, 1 tank, 6 APCs, 5 artillery pieces, 8 drones destroyed (plus 30 more drones), 13 vehicles/fuel tanks, 1 special equipment
- Russia sent a wave of 35 Shahed-131/136 drones, 30 were shot down, 5 got through causing a fire in Kyiv
- Ukraine's air defences are improving against the drones
- Russia may only have missiles for 3-4 more massive attacks before exhausting their strategic reserves, but still has around 8,000 S-300 surface-to-air missiles
- Several major fires reported in Russia including an oil/gas field in Irkutsk, causing far more damage than the drone attacks on Ukraine
- Another Russian Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the Magadan region
Kupyansk to Svatove
- Not much change reported, positional fighting continues
- Fighting reported east of Kyslivka towards Novoselivske, Ukrainians repelled an attack on Stelmakhivka
- No news on Novoselivske or Kuzemivka
- Repelled attacks around Ploshchanka and fighting near Kolomyichykha for the first time in a while
Kreminna Area
- Difficult fighting likely around Bilohorivka as it becomes flanked
- Russians may have taken Bilohorivka near Soledar which would allow them to flank Soledar from the southwest and threaten Vesele
- Defences being built around Vesele
- Heavy fighting continues in Soledar itself with reports of English-speaking mercenaries transferred in to reinforce ahead of a possible Wagner offensive
Bakhmut Area
- Ukraine contesting Russian gains on eastern outskirts, reportedly retaking suburbs
- Less than 20% of Ukrainian 25th Battalion remains, 300 soldiers of 63rd Battalion redeployed from Kherson to Chasiv Yar
- Ukrainians of 28th Brigade attacking near Ozaryanivka, artillery units preparing for counterattack
- Russians may have taken the champagne factory in the industrial area
- Ukraine doing well in Opytne, pushing Russians back 500m
- Russians have the train station at Klishchiivka but the town is well-fortified, fighting in the area threatens the T0504 highway
- Russians pushed back some near Kurdyumivka
Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Fronts
- Usual action around Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka
- Intense fighting in Marinka, contradictory claims on control
- Russians trying to flank Marinka via Pobjeda
- Russians pushed back around Novomykhailivka
- Ukrainians cut road from Pavlivka to Mykilske
- Russians repelled near Velyka Novosilka
- Fighting near Nesteryanka may indicate increased Ukrainian probing attacks ahead of a future offensive
- Russians fortifying Melitopol area
Southern Fronts
- Kherson shelled 69 times by Russians
- Video allegedly shows Ukrainians hitting Russian targets on Kinburn Spit but little verified information from the area
- Ukrainians attacked Russians in Zaporizhzhia destroying 2 ammo warehouses and wounding 150 soldiers
