"It appears that the Ukrainians and Western allies weren't assuming that the mined areas would be as problematic as they have been and so densely mined as they are and that and together with Russian aviation from K-52 attack helicopters and artillery has provided a really difficult defensive line to overcome."

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Kupyansk-Svatove Line
- Russia has deployed additional reserves to mount an offensive in the Kupyansk-Svatove area, with a powerful Russian group concentrated there. The ISW reports marginal tactical gains by Russia in this direction.
- Ukrainian Commander Syrsky stated that achieving quick results is now "practically impossible" due to densely mined territories and numerous Russian strongholds. This implies the Ukrainians were expecting faster progress initially.
- Kenneth Gregg, a Finnish fighter in Ukraine, argues there is no reason for catastrophic thinking and that Ukraine is deploying Home Guard troops to meet the threat, preserving counter-offensive forces.
Bakhmut Area
- Russian forces continued ground attacks around Bakhmut but did not make any confirmed gains according to the ISW.
- A Wagner commander claimed Ukrainian forces captured a stronghold north of Klishchivka and control areas north of Bakhmut near Zalizhnyansky.
- Geolocated footage shows Ukrainian forces reaching the outskirts of Staromilske before being pushed back by Russian elastic defence manoeuvres.
- Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister states they are continuing offensive operations north and south of Bakhmut and have likely made limited gains.
Southern Frontline
- There are conflicting reports about the situation in Staromilske. Some Russian sources claim they have regained control after Ukrainian advances, while others suggest heavy fighting is ongoing with Ukraine in the centre of the village.
- Russians appear to have made gains near Priyutne according to multiple sources.
- Andrew Perpetua expresses confusion about the situation around Robotyne due to conflicting open source information.
- Ukraine has reportedly expanded its offensive east of Kamianske, establishing a foothold across the Dnipro River.
Wrap up
In the Kherson region near the Antonivsky Bridge, there is little new information. Some footage suggests Ukrainians are trying to advance eastwards, possibly to consolidate control before pushing south. Explosions were reported in Russian-occupied Crimea, with helicopters heard beforehand. Storm Shadow and HIMARS strikes were active in Melitopol, Tokmak and other areas. Jonathan concludes by asking viewers for their thoughts on the Russian counter-offensive moves along the frontline.
