Jonathan discusses reports from George Barros at the Institute for the Study of War that Ukraine has only been able to hit targets up to 20km inside Russia. Jonathan is disappointed as this barely gets you to the city of Belgorod and doesn't allow Ukraine to hit key military infrastructure/targets. He speculates that the Biden administration's claim that they don't want to see strikes inside Russia is the reason for this limitation. He feels that Ukraine should be given "freer reign" to attack targets further inside Russia given the attacks on civilian targets inside Ukraine.

Kharkiv Oblast: Russian forces withdraw units from near Vovchansk

Jonathan reports that Russian forces are withdrawing units from near Vovchansk due to loss of combat capability. This was stated by the spokesman for the Kortitsia operational and strategic group of troops near Nazar. Units are withdrawing from the settlements of Liptsy and Tikki. Jonathan believes this is an implicit acceptance that Russia's offensive in that area has failed. He also notes that whilst Ukraine have been focused on the offensive near Vovchansk, Russia has had some success further south.

Donetsk Oblast: Ukrainian forces attack Russian positions in Klishchiivka

Donetsk Oblast: Russian forces make gains near Toretsk

He describes the area as having been static since 2014 and expresses surprise that the Russians have chosen to attack here. Jonathan has seen unconfirmed claims that Ukraine may have redeployed units away from this area. He reports that the village of Shumy has been captured. He notes that this is another area on the very long front line where Russia is attacking and believes this forms part of a "deep battle" tactic by Russia to find and exploit weakness. Donetsk Oblast: Small Russian Gains North of Avdiivka

He acknowledges that whilst these gains are not good for Ukraine, it's not the major offensive that some had been fearing. He believes Russia is not capable of such a large scale offensive.
