- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Losses
- 600 Russian personnel were lost on September 8th, which is on the higher end but not the highest seen in the last 3 months. Jonathan recommends watching the "Counting the Dead" video from War Graphics for more insight into Russian casualty figures.
- 15 tanks, 13 APVs, 36 artillery systems, 3 MLRS, 1 anti-aircraft system, 18 drones, 34 vehicles/fuel tanks, and 10 pieces of special equipment were also lost, which is another significant day of attrition.
- The high losses in special equipment likely include electronic warfare and reconnaissance assets.
Electronic Warfare
Footage shows a Russian drone losing control and falling in a field, likely due to Ukrainian electronic warfare. The drone stores video onboard which the Ukrainians were able to recover.

Russian Tank Losses
Analysis from Richard Verica shows the T-80BV tank has gone from a small proportion of Russian losses early in the war to the biggest loser now. Reasons include:
- T-80BVs are relatively recently built in the mid-late 80s and were mostly put in storage in the 90s after only 5-7 years of use, so are not worn out.
- Their turbine engines use a lot of fuel which was too expensive for 1990s Russia.
- Not many nations use T-80s so they were not raided as much for spare parts to sell.
- Russia had already reactivated many of the best T-72s to upgrade and sell internationally but had only done this for a small batch of T-80s.
The 37th T-90M tank, Russia's most modern tank, was recently lost with Ukraine capturing one in working order near Robotyne. It's the 3rd one captured by Ukraine in the war.

Minefield Dangers
Footage shows a Ukrainian mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle (MRAP) hitting at least 5 mines in just 5 meters before being disabled and hit by guided artillery. While the vehicle's mine protection saved those inside, it shows the huge challenge minefields pose to Ukrainian advances. People are seen fleeing the disabled vehicle before artillery strikes it.

Strikes in Russia and Occupied Ukraine
- The Bryansk microelectronics plant was hit by unknown drones for the 3rd time, 2 days in a row.
- A Russian illegal election site in occupied Polohy, Zaporizhzhia was attacked. Being only 21km from the front lines, it is in artillery range.
- Footage claiming to show a drone exploding in a residential area of Bryansk is questioned by Jonathan as an ineffective use of a drone.
- A Russian FAB-500 guided bomb is seen in footage exploding in an empty field, likely landing off-target due to Ukrainian electronic warfare.
Other News
- Absurd claims that 53% of voters turned out within 3 minutes of polls opening in Russian sham elections in occupied Ukraine.
- Ukraine allegedly offering $2 million and NATO country citizenship to any Russian MiG-31 pilot who defects with a Kinzhal missile. Similar offers have been fulfilled before.
- Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones interviewed by Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov in a "cringey" meltdown.
- Huge Ukrainian flag raised by balloons over Russian-occupied Donetsk in an impressive display.
