🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
- These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
- These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
- All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
- Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
- Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
- Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
- Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
- All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
- Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Russian Military Losses (Ukrainian General Staff Figures)
🎦 00:29-03:32⏩
- Initially, the Ukrainian General Staff reported 12 aircraft losses for the day before; this number was later changed to 41.
- Jonathan expresses cynicism, suggesting the General Staff felt pressured to align with the SBU's (Security Service of Ukraine) higher claim of 41 military aircraft destroyed or damaged.
- Daily losses include 1,020 personnel, 3 tanks, and 7 armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs), which are considered low.
- However, 88 artillery systems were destroyed, a "massive" number, approximately four times the daily average, also including heavy mortar systems.
- Additionally, 123 vehicles and fuel tanks, and 2 pieces of special equipment were lost.
Russian Logistics Protection with Anti-Drone Nets
🎦 03:32-05:15⏩
- Footage from the Signum Battalion shows a Ukrainian drone performing a complex manoeuvre in the Lyman direction.
- The drone successfully navigates underneath a Russian anti-drone net, suspended by posts over a road, to strike a 'bukanka' vehicle.
- Jonathan highlights how this demonstrates Russian efforts to protect their logistics routes. He also notes that both sides use such netting but criticises Ukraine for not proactively deploying similar defensive measures closer to the front line.
Russian ZOOPARC 1M Counter-Battery Radar Destroyed
🎦 05:16-05:44⏩
- A Russian ZOOPARC 1M counter-battery radar system was destroyed by Ukraine's Black Forest Brigade.
- Jonathan notes these systems are quite decent bits of kit, with estimated costs ranging from $5 to $25 million. Several ZOOPARCs have been taken out previously.
North Korean Artillery System Spotted in Kramina Forest
🎦 05:45-06:33⏩
- Evidence emerged of a North Korean 170mm self-propelled artillery system being used and destroyed in the Kramina forest area (Serebiansky forest).
- Jonathan points out that while North Korean soldiers and equipment were previously observed primarily in the Kursk direction, this sighting indicates Russia is deploying North Korean equipment elsewhere along the front line, which he considers "a little bit of a worry."
Claimed Destruction of German TRML-4D Radar by Iskander Missile
🎦 06:33-10:11⏩
- War Vehicle Tracker claimed an Iskander missile strike 100 kilometres from the front line destroyed a TRML-4D radar, a decent piece of German-provided kit.
- Jonathan expresses scepticism due to the poor resolution of the Russian video and its frequent cuts, suggesting an attempt to obscure the true nature of the target. He questions if the radar shown is indeed the TRML-4D, which does not need to spin, unlike what was implied by some comments.
- He discusses the common pro-Ukrainian bias to claim such hits are decoys or misidentifications, while acknowledging that it could indeed be a decoy or a different counter-battery radar. Ultimately, something was hit far behind the front lines, but its exact identity remains unconfirmed.
Ukrainian Air Force Adopts Western "Kill Team" Tactics
🎦 10:11-17:21⏩
- According to EuroMaidan Press, the Ukrainian Air Force is adopting Western "hunt in packs" tactics, moving away from traditional Soviet-era solo missions.
- This procedural update, more significant than technological ones, involves Ukrainian pilots flying in complex packages where each plane supports others.
- An example shows a Ukrainian Su-27 destroying a Russian surface-to-air missile (SAM) system with a HARM missile while escorting a strike group, clearing a path for other aircraft.
- The arrival of F-16s and Mirages, equipped with internal radar jammers, further enables these complex strike packages, allowing specialised roles like jamming or direct attacks on Russian air defences.
- Jonathan notes that while NATO doctrine involves achieving complete air dominance before ground operations, Ukraine's current battlefield conditions (trench lines, mines) necessitate adaptations. These new tactics allow strikes at "tactical depth" (tens of kilometres), crucial for current fighting, such as in Sumy Oblast.
Russian Targeting of Emergency Workers and Civilian Infrastructure in Ukraine, and Industrial Facilities in Russia
🎦 17:22-20:21⏩
- Tim White reported a "despicable war crime" in the Zaporizhia region near Vasilivka, where a fire truck was hit in a double-tap airstrike. Luckily, no crew were injured.
- Russians explicitly stated "There will be no more mercy," indicating deliberate targeting of civilians and emergency workers. Jonathan confirms two separate incidents of fire trucks being targeted by FPV drones, highlighting their unmistakable nature.
- In Russia, two engine factories have caught fire in two days: the Zavalje engine factory and the AvtoDiesel Yaroslavl engine factory (under US sanctions for producing military diesel engines). The Zavalje fire appeared to be sabotage involving a fuel truck. The cause of the Yaroslavl fire is unknown, but Jonathan suggests it could be a drone strike or internal "Russia on fire" incidents.
Kerch Bridge Attack Analysis and Impact
🎦 20:23-29:04⏩
- Initial Russian Claims: Russian footage showed a Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessel (USV) hit by a Lancet near the Crimean Bridge, but it did not fully detonate. Russian sources claimed the Ukrainian strike failed to damage the bridge itself, attributing it to successful protective structures (sacrificial "flame arrestors") around the bridge supports.
- Attack Details: The attack appears to have targeted the most vulnerable part, the main span over the shipping channel. A test underwater drone, possibly the new "Marichka," penetrated the protection but did not damage the main support. A large explosive charge caused part of the protective device to fly 40 metres high, damaging the bridge's guardrails and temporarily blocking traffic.
- Jonathan's Analysis & OSINT Debates:
- Jonathan and some analysts suggest this was likely an experimental attempt to test the bridge's defences rather than a full destruction attempt. He expresses concern that such "prodding and probing" might alert Russians to future tactics.
- OSINT analyst Marcus Dingleberry views it as a "degradation operation" targeting the vulnerable seabed pillars, aiming to cause structural issues that will be difficult for Russia to repair (potentially requiring a cofferdam in a war zone).
- Some Russian sources are reportedly claiming the main support is "cracked through," though this is unconfirmed and would require underwater assessment.
- Jonathan notes the "odd" occurrence of only one explosion and highlights that water is a good absorber of explosive energy, which could limit the impact if the charge wasn't directly against the support.
Battle Damage Assessment of Operation Spiderweb Airfield Attacks
🎦 29:04-36:14⏩
- Belaya Air Base (Okhotsk region): Radio Liberty published satellite images confirming the destruction of at least 11 strategic bombers (7 Tu-95s and 4 Tu-22M3s) and damage to an AN-12 transport aircraft.
- Ivanovo Severni Air Base: A Finnish source indicates that new satellite images confirm one A-50 AEW (airborne early warning) aircraft was destroyed and another hit, potentially unrepairable.
- Overall Figures: US and European security officials estimate up to 20 Russian strategic aircraft were destroyed or severely damaged (e.g., 6 Tu-95s and 4 Tu-22M3s). Jonathan finds the Ukrainian General Staff's updated claim of 41 damaged or destroyed aircraft unlikely given the current open-source intelligence.
- Russian Deception: A peculiar satellite image comparison from Belaya Air Base shows a damaged plane appearing "fixed" a day later, despite adjacent planes remaining destroyed. Jonathan suggests Russia towed a different plane into position overnight to try and deceive OSINT analysts, as such rapid repairs are implausible.
Russian Airfields: Poor Defensive Measures and Corruption
🎦 36:29-41:15⏩
- Following recent drone attacks, the Russian Air Force reportedly ordered personnel to build wire and mesh anti-drone shelters for aircraft at their own expense.
- Fighter Bomber, a reliable Russian Telegram channel, complained that billions of roubles are allocated to the Ministry of Defence but are either stolen or remain unspent due to internal corruption and infighting over contractor selection.
- Personnel are forced to pay out-of-pocket for these non-certified shelters. If a shelter fails and damages an aircraft, the cost falls on the individual who built it, rather than the military.
- Jonathan points out that this situation highlights the pervasive corruption within the Russian military, where funds meant for critical equipment are diverted, and the burden falls on soldiers.
Ukrainian Covert Drone Delivery Vehicles Revealed
🎦 41:15-42:47⏩
- Footage has emerged showing Ukrainian trucks involved in the airfield attacks.
- These trucks were disguised as transporting "prefab office units" (similar to garden sheds), complete with what appears to be a solar panel for power.
- Jonathan highlights the ingenious deception, as these innocuous-looking vehicles were in fact carrying hundreds of deadly drones for attack missions, easily blending into civilian traffic.
US Administration Silence on Ukrainian Strikes
🎦 42:48-44:06⏩
- The US administration has maintained a "very quiet" stance regarding both the Ukrainian airfield attacks and the Kerch Bridge attack.
- Jonathan references memes of Zelensky holding "cards" of destroyed Russian assets, a nod to Trump's earlier comment to Zelensky ("you don't have the cards").
- He notes White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's evasive response when questioned about Zelensky possibly having "cards" unknown to the President, confirming the administration's deliberate silence on these Ukrainian long-range strikes.
Russian Overnight Drone Attacks on Ukraine
🎦 44:06-49:14⏩
- Russia launched 95 drones across Ukraine overnight; 61 were intercepted (36 by conventional means, 25 by electronic warfare), meaning over a third successfully reached their targets.
- Jonathan suggests the high penetration rate is likely due to drones targeting areas very close to the front line, such as Sumy (only 20km away), where air defences have minimal time to react and are vulnerable to Russian reconnaissance.
- Attacks targeted civilians in Kharkiv, Odesa, and other oblasts, including a bioethanol plant near Lebedyn (50km south of Sumy).
- These assaults, lasting 90 minutes, struck homes, hospitals, and businesses, injuring two people.
- Sumy was declared a day of mourning due to repeated attacks, including a "delayed double tap" on Kovtapiv.
- A fixed-wing kamikaze drone (Mognia-type) also hit a petrol station on the outskirts of Kharkiv, injuring an employee. Jonathan shares a poignant anecdote about a gutted petrol station near Kramatorsk, emphasising the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure and its devastating economic impact on struggling cities.
Ukrainian Strikes on Russia and Crimea (Limited Battle Damage Assessment)
🎦 49:16-53:41⏩
- Ukraine conducted drone attacks on Russia and Crimea. Reports claimed Neptune missiles were launched from Odesa and Kherson regions into Crimea, likely targeting military objectives, but confirmed battle damage assessment (BDA) is limited.
- Jonathan observes a reduction in visual evidence from Crimea reaching social media, suggesting Russia is suppressing information.
- Significant explosions were reported and recorded by civilians in Rilsk, Kursk Oblast (a Russian staging point), indicating successful Ukrainian drone strikes, though specific damage is unknown.
- Five explosions occurred in Kamyanka-Dniprovska (occupied Zaporizhia), possibly Ukrainian missile strikes on a command post or drone unit.
- An explosion and fire were also reported at a military unit in Kolomna, Russia, but details are scarce.
Domestic Russian Affairs & Ukrainian Military Appointments
- Russian Public Opinion: A recent poll indicates a record 64% of Russians now support peace talks to end the war, a 6% increase since March.
- Chechen Mafia Kidnapping in Moscow: Shocking footage from Yaroslavsky train station showed Chechen Qadir-Ribai mafia brazenly kidnapping a blogger (who published negative content) in broad daylight, with bystanders and police reportedly refusing to interfere.
- Ukrainian Traitor Detained: The SBU detained a 42-year-old conscript in a National Guard Assault Brigade in Kharkiv who was serving as a platoon commander and working for Russian Federal Security Service, passing coordinates of his unit's command posts, training centres, and manpower data.
- Ukrainian Military Appointments:
- Mykhailo Drapachy has been appointed Commander of the Joint Forces, expected to focus entirely on the front.
- Vadim Sukhoresky was dismissed as commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF).
- Robert Magyar-Brovdy (of the "Birds of Magyar" drone unit) was appointed to replace Sukhoresky as USF commander. Jonathan praises Magyar's expertise, highlighting his unit's innovative use of fibre optic cable drones, PTN-3 mines, and integrated counter-drone systems. Magyar's appointment is significant as he is a civilian-turned-officer, bringing a "private sector business style" approach to military operations.
- US Envoy Meeting: Andriy Yermak met Trump envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss Russia's unconstructive stance on Istanbul talks and called for tougher sanctions. He invited Witkoff to Ukraine to observe battlefield realities. Jonathan mentions reports from the Daily Telegraph alleging Witkoff has Kremlin ties.
