"The Russians are having some success up to the north there. Now we come down. I haven't heard too much about Kramina, Bilohevka, nothing about the north of Bakhmut."
Hello Team!
Jonathan provides a frontline update for August 8, 2023. He is on holiday so his "ugly mug" isn't on screen and the map hasn't been updated. He thanks JR for his help with the maps.

📍 FRONT-LINE UPDATE -🗺️ MAP LEGEND
Northeast Sector - Kupiansk, Svatove, Kreminna
- The Russians have likely taken the small village of Novoselivka northwest of Svatove after heavy fighting. Ukrainian forces had repelled earlier attacks.
- The Russians have brought in fresh assault forces in the Kupiansk region, taking advantage of tall grass to attack through fields and forest strips.
- Southwest of Svatove, from Karmazinovka to Novoyehorivka, Ukrainian forces have been pushing the Russians back to their initial lines after earlier Russian gains.
Bakhmut Area
- North of Bakhmut around Klishchiivka, the Ukrainians have made gains, pushing the Russians back to the railway line according to some mappers. Suriat Maps is likely wrong in still showing Russian control.
- There are conflicting claims about the extent of Ukrainian control in parts of Klishchiivka. A Russian source shows damaged Russian equipment in western Klishchiivka.
- Not much news from the Yahidne/Berkhivka area north of Bakhmut or Andriivka/Kurdiumivka to the south.
Southern Front - Zaporizhzhia & Kherson Oblasts
- Little news about Avdiivka or the Donetsk area.
- Near Robotyne in western Zaporizhzhia, the Russians appear to have recaptured some positions east of the town. Fighting continues.
- A new Ukrainian bridgehead has likely been established across the Dnipro River near Kozachi Laheri in Kherson oblast. Russian sources report Ukrainian troops landing by boat and expanding their foothold.
- The Ukrainian success here may be due to Russia moving forces from Kherson to Zaporizhzhia, leaving the area more vulnerable. Oleshky near the Antonivsky Bridge is also under Ukrainian artillery fire.
- If Ukraine can threaten Russian positions in Kherson oblast, it presents a dilemma for Russia of where to send limited reserves and could open a shorter route to Crimea for Ukraine.
Wrap Up
