"Do you not see that our guys are giving their lives? Well yeah, both of those things are true. They're not just speaking or performing, but with their lives they defend not only the rights of the African continent - what? No they're not. No they're not. But the right of all people on the planet to be free. They are doing the exact opposite."

Hello Team!

Jonathan introduces the video as Part 2 of the Ukraine War News Updates for July 30, 2023. He says he will make this one quicker than the previous video.

🪦 DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA

  1. These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
  2. These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
  3. All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
  4. Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
  5. Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
  6. Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
  7. Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
  8. All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
  9. Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

Frontline Update: Northeast Sector

  • In the northeast sector around Svatove, between Kupyansk and Kreminna, the Russians had made quick 3-5km advances west of the Zherebets River towards a ridgeline and the Oskil River, putting pressure on the Ukrainians.
  • Subsequently, Ukraine seems to have stabilized the sector and pushed the Russians back.
  • Euromaidan Press reports Ukrainian forces have secured control over the village of Nadiya in Luhansk Oblast.
  • Pro-Russian mapper Syriac Maps acknowledged the arrival of new Ukrainian forces managed to stabilize the front line, and the Ukrainian army re-entered the small village of Tverdokhlibove.
  • However, the Russians are still trying to advance south of Nehruvka and enter Kharkiv Oblast from the west.

Frontline Update: Southern Front

  • Syriac Maps claims that after Ukrainians took Staromayorske, the Russians launched a counterattack, recaptured some high and low positions adjacent to it, and forced Ukrainians to withdraw to the northern part of the town. Jonathan is skeptical of this claim.
  • Ukraine is reported to be 1km away from Pryiutne and pressing the flanks of Urozhaine. They have reached a road between Novodonetsk and Klishchiivka.
  • A Russian source contradicts Syriac Maps, saying the situation in Staromayorske is not as bad as claimed and Ukrainians are preparing to move on Urozhaine.

Military Aid

  • Ukraine's SSO shared footage of Brimstone missiles in action. These are ground or air-launched missiles with a 20-60km range that can be launched from the back of various vehicles.
  • German politicians are calling for the immediate transfer of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. These are equivalent to the SCALP and Storm Shadow missiles.
  • 2 more Leopard 2A4 tanks arrived at the Polish Leopard hub for repairs. At least 4 are currently being repaired in Poland. The status of Strv 122 and Leopard 2A6 tanks is unknown.
  • According to verified Oryx data, only 3 Leopard tanks have been destroyed since the beginning of the counteroffensive, contrary to Russian claims. The Leopards were used initially with some losses, then pulled back as Ukraine changed tactics.

Wagner Group Returns Equipment

The UK Defence Intelligence reports that the Wagner Group has likely returned heavy equipment to the Russian army. Satellite images of the Wagner camp in Belarus show mostly trucks and vans, with few armored combat vehicles visible.

Geopolitical News

  • Over 100 Wagner fighters have moved towards the Suwalki Gap connecting Poland and the Baltic states, according to the Polish Prime Minister. He says they will disguise as Belarusian border guards to help illegal immigrants enter Poland to destabilize the situation, calling it an "unconditional step towards a further hybrid attack on Poland." Poland and Lithuania are reinforcing their borders in response.
  • The Wall Street Journal reports Saudi Arabia will host Ukraine peace talks in August without Russia and likely China. The large-scale event aims to consolidate international support for Ukraine's peace demands, especially in the "Global South."
  • Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed "Russian men give their lives at the front so that people from the African continent are free," which Jonathan calls "absolute nonsense" and "deeply offensive." Meanwhile, Russian propagandist Alexei Mukhin said on TV that Africa is "a prize" for its rare earth metals and resources.
  • State Duma Deputy Chairman Peter Tolstoy said he's convinced all ex-Soviet countries "won't be able to exist independent of Russia" as "they have no history of their own statehood." Jonathan strongly disagrees, noting Russia is trying to recreate the Soviet empire.
  • The EU does not yet have the means to ensure grain transit from Ukraine by land as an alternative to the suspended Black Sea grain deal, which African nations want reinstated. Taking the Danube route or using rail/road is less efficient and more expensive.
